#Back2Blogging: Day 1 The Evolution of your blog

Started by Sunday , author of Adventures in Extreme Parenthood 9/12/2010 8:58:13 PM

I began blogging in December of 2008 after talking with a number of friends from my church who had also began blogging.  They all encouraged me to make the leap into blogging after insisting that my humorous and touching stories I would often share with them would also be a help to other mothers like myself raising children with special needs.  As it turns out they could not have been more right.

However, what I didn’t expect was how much my blog and the community I found would change me.

In the beginning my blog was a mish-mash of daily insights into my life as a single mom, working full time, and trying to balance making a living with my boys’ lengthy therapy and doctor’s appointments.

My first 2 blog posts were A mother’s love for Chick-Fil-A and My favorite Christmas gift

Today my blog is still something of a potpourri of posts about autism, things that make me happy, the occasional rant, and my life as a remarried mom rocking the blended family life.  The biggest changes have been to my blog's design, 2 name changes(!), and my decision to not make the leap into Wordpress.

For today’s discussion:

  • How has your blog evolved since the beginning?
  • If you could go back to the beginning of your blog and change something about it would you? What would you change?

Be sure to link up your Day 1 post here and visit your fellow SITStahs also taking a look back at the evolution of their blogs.

Together we can get Back to Blogging!

I began blogging on November 29th, 2009 and although my first posts were fairly vague, I think I've stayed pretty true to what I planned with my blog - although I've added reviews and giveaways to the mix ... both to expand my readership and to find cool new books and products to be a guinea pig for... cause I love it!

My first ever Blog Post was called Welcome and my expanded Back to Blogging Post can be found here.

As for what I'd change about the beginning of my blog... not too much - I'm still kinda in the toddler stage with my blog, so it's continually evolving.  I will say that I have had a few ebbs to go with my run-on flows... and I could have tried harder to keep the continuum going... but life comes first, blogging comes second, so no guilt in having to step away occasionally....

Blog post for today: My first ever blog post
  • How has your blog evolved since the beginning?

Um, it bears no resemblance, though it wouldn't be bad if I could mix the two together...

  • If you could go back to the beginning of your blog and change something about it would you? What would you change?

Actually, I would change it now. I would allow more of my personality to come through and post more in my real voice, while also offering the parenting tips.

I can't really explain when I got away from this, but it is something I really want to get back to...just need to figure out how! :)

My first day is done!  I'm not entirely sure I did in right.  And since my first blog post was so BOR-ing (no pics or anything!) I copied and pasted it in the post.

I'd love it if you'd visit and critique!

Got mine up This is going to be great!

Day One!!!

  • How has your blog evolved since the beginning?

It started as a place to share my family and became support from other mommies!

  • If you could go back to the beginning of your blog and change something about it would you? What would you change?

My post says it all but I would have stayed with Wordpress and built it from there. Now I am planning on moving it back over.

Ahh....

I just stopped publishing to my first blog.  I'm curious to look back at the beginning myself!  I started this second blog because I HAD to.  I had such a burden on my heart that I couldn't NOT write it.

How has it evolved from the beginning?

I sort of came full circle.  My original blog was intended to be a ministry that contained money saving advice.  It became a coupon coaching site. My spin-off was the ministry blog.  Now that the first blog is done, I am adding in some money saving advice to the ministry blog!

What would I change?

Probably nothing.  The journey has helped me heal from hurts and grow as a wife, mother, and Christian woman.  I have found my voice.  I have become a leader.  I have gained confidence. I wouldn't change any of that.

My Embarrassing First Post

1. How has my blog evolved?

It's still the same mom-blogger type blog but in the beginning I really didn't have a good writing style. Sometimes I was serious, sometimes I was funny, sometimes I was plain boring. After a while I realized I like being a little funny and I really started challenging myself to be more creative. I think it's turned out very well! I've also gone through several design changes because I'm addicted and need help. I can't stop playing with the designs! I learn more and then tweak, learn more and then tweak (my blog that is, not tweak on drugs). It's a never ending cycle. At least until I move to Wordpress and spend a fortune on a professional design. After forking over that much money I don't think I'll be playing with the design anymore.

2. What would I change?

I would have studied so much more about HOW to have a blog instead being so clueless for so long. (Not that I've "made it" now!). I would have hired a designer from the beginning and STARTED on a self-hosted site using Wordpress.org. I wish I would have been more organized and thought more about the direction of my blog and at least come up with a mission statement or something. My blog lacked some serious focus for too long but thanks to sites like SITS I was able to learn and grow!

My First Ever Blog Post...

Fairy Party

I started my blog thinking it would be a collection of parties and fun ideas. I even called it "Greatfun4kids"

I really did not understand what blogging was about. I had no idea how to find readers. I didn't even know how to comment.

Three days after starting I woke up with a sense that I really needed to share my Journey with Depression on my Blog. So I did, even though at the time I didn't really see how depression and parties were linked.

But now I do. If i had carried on down the road of sharing only the fun times, it would have been a one-dimensional blog that not many could relate to.

Because I took a risk and shared ME and my struggles, my blog has become so much more than just a collection of good ideas, and I am grateful for that.

I have just found the perfect saying to sum up my blog (after two years)...

"...Finding fun on the Rollercoaster of Life..."

That's me. That's my blog. The good the bad, the ugly, the fun and downright awful all rolled together for better or for worse. But mostly for better.

xx

My blog began as a way to chronicle my hubby and I's move from Manhattan, Ks to Wichita.  It was pretty uneventful, but great therapy during the move.

I love looking back at our how our life has changed!

Now I am a SAHM to two baby girls who are four months apart (gotta love adoption a newborn when you are 5 months pregnant!).  My blog is currently a humorous peek into my wonderfully chaotic life.

what would I change?

I would probably protect our privacy more.  Now that we have children, especially via adoption I wish I would have been more cautious. Nothing has happened, but I worry at times.

Come on over and see for yourself :)

I began blogging back in 2007 because I love going to free events in the Detroit area.  My friends started asking me to send them information on free events and I thought it would be better to just post them in a blog than to email people.

I enjoy helping people to stretch their money. People are really suffering in this economy and I have gotten humbling emails from my readers telling me that my blog has really helped them in this tough economy.

Here is the link to the day one Back to Blogging Event assignment.  It is a about a review I wrote when money guru Suze Orman came to Detroit to speak.  It brought back some wonderful memories for me and helped me to realize that my first blog posts were not that bad :)

My 1st blog post:
http://the-chunkymonkey.blogspot.com/2009/10/saturday-boredom.html

My blog has changed quite a bit since I first started. For starters it was called Life Happens and now it's Sippy Cups & Cloth Bums. When I first started it was very random. I already had a more personal blog, but I wanted something else that was public. So that's how this blog came about. It was just random thoughts from our day. It still is thoughts from our day. One thing that changed is that people actually read my blog! I never guessed people would be interested, but they are! I think it's bc my son is so cute ;)

If I could change something about how I started I would be more organized. I would have looked more into the ogling world. I also probably would have got a custom design from the start.
