Do you have a plan for your site's SEO?

I'm curious how many people with blogs have an idea about what search terms they would like to rank highly for.  Do you have a list of keywords that you are focused on?  Is it written down or just a mental list?  What are you doing to increase your ranking for those terms?  Are you measuring where you fall on the Google results pages for that term?  I would be very curious to see what you are doing.

I was hoping someone else would reply first, but I guess I will.

I have done only a tiny bit of keyword research, in the very beginning, and that worked well.

But then, I haven't done this again.  I figured I was going to blog about what I wanted, regardless of the competition.  However, I do use Google Analytics, and I see what terms people are searching to find my blog.  This has helped me indirectly, and I do find myself being more keyword focused now.  For example, in the beginning, I might have titled a post something like "here is what i made today."  lol Now I say something much more specific, such as "Here is an Easy to Sew Dress," for example.  Because there is a lot of content, my site has MANY keywords (as I am sure most blogs do).  And so, no, I do not have a list, written or mental, of keywords at all.

I need to learn more and be more focused.  I will play with that keyword tool you recommend to have more of an seo plan.

For most blogs, what's best is to mix what I'm saying with what you've done.  90% of your posts are just what to write about with good keywords in the title and 10% of the posts (say one every 2-3 weeks) are intentionally focused on a specific keyword phrase that gets a lot of searches every week.  This will usually get you good Search Engine traffic (new blood) to your site that you can then convert to subscribers.

The thing to remember is that according to some estimates as much as 75% of ad clicks come from new visitors.  (Which makes sense, they haven't been to your site before and have never seen your ads.)  So if you want your site to make money (and who doesn't) it's not just about building a loyal following but about continually bringing in new eyeballs to your site and the best way to do that is SEO.

Keep looking at my posts on Creating an SEO plan and together I think we'll find a few ways to improve traffic to your site.

That's good sense advice, Aarn, thanks.

Especially this, which is such a simple and easy to implement concept:

Thanks for getting us to think about a plan, now I do have one!  Thanks again.
