Do you write personal messages in your holiday cards?

Started by Shannon , author of Milk and Cuddles 12/13/2010 4:15:36 PM

Holly recently asked how many cards people send out for Christmas- and I was surprised how many people were sending!

And it made me wonder...do you all just sign your cards? Or do you write personal messages to everyone. We only send out about 50-60 holiday cards, but I write about a paragraph or so in each. And I cant imagine doing that in 150 cards!!

Am I the only one writing stuff to each person? Is it more common to just sign?

I used to. In fact, I used to MOCK people that didn't even sign them, but now I am one of those people.

I do photo cards and have our names printed and by the time I label and stamp all of them, I can't bring myself for that additional energy to sign them.

Probably 80% of the cards I receive are just like mine - no signature or customization.

Ya know what most of the ones we get are the same! Which is why I'm wondering if I'm torturing myself every year trying to write personal comments in each card...if maybe no one expects me to, or cares!

lol.

I think a personal message is a very nice touch and even if it is short, it goes a little beyond simply signing and licking a stamp.  That said, I didn't really bother too much with cards this year.  I sent out a few but figured my motto would be I am helping to save the planet by not sending out paper greetings.  All the eco conscious should love that.  Interesting trend with electronic greetings now.  I love Jib-Jab!

I feel ambivalent at best when receiving a Christmas card from someone's "computer". Computers are fine for printing addresses on envelops or labels, but inside the card should be at least something personal. Sorry if that offends anyone, but if you can't take the time to even sign it let alone leave a one sentence personal message, then don't send it. My oppinion.

Wow! I LOVE when people write a message, but I don't. I send picture cards with a printed message on it. I DO think about it every year but never end up with enough time.

This year I sent out 82 photo cards and I wrote something on all but 12 of them and those 12 were from a random internet card exchange that I a: didn't actually know any of the recipients and b: I was already several days late sending them. Had I not been late on them, I would have written something. I like photo cards either way, but don't get the point of sending a store bought ugly card from a box without doing anything but signing your name. We got several of those from our extended family. I guess it's nice that they're thinking of us, but it feels too forced.
