The bat situation happened to me quite a few years ago!! Hubby was at meeting, I was home with our first baby. A bat flew in from the fireplace, and just kept buzzing through the house. I ran into our room with the baby and called police. They came in, and were flustered on how to get it out of the house. I ran to hall closet and grabbed the big fish net we use to pull in "the big ones". As the two officers ran through the house trying to seize the culprit, hubby walked in. As he opened the door, the bat flew out. He was a bit surprised to see two policemen running towards him with a large fish net. We have always kept the fireplace doors closed from then on, and close the flu the day after fire is cold.
