Halloween Party Ideas and Giveaway

Started by HoosierHomemade , author of Hoosier Homemade ~ Making Your House A Home 10/27/2011 8:30:10 AM

As you all know, I love Halloween! I'm not really sure why, because most of it is kind of dark and scary, which are two things I hate, but I do love the decorating, the baking, the cooking and, of course, the Halloween Candy.

Today I have a fun little giveaway for you, sponsored by Fanta. They asked me, "What are your favorite Halloween party tips, tricks, and memories?"

I have TONS of great memories from Halloween's past, and could probably bore you with those for an entire day {but who has the time?}, I also have a few tricks up my sleeve, but party tips...I thought you would enjoy hearing a few of those.

Last year we hosted the best Halloween party ever, but unfortunately my computer crashed last January and I'm pretty sure those pictures were on that computer. But I will share a few of the fun things we did...

Halloween Food

Halloween Party Games

  • Scarecrow Stuff: Form two teams; dress one team member  in oversized clothing, then have the other team members stuff leaves into the clothes. First team to stuff their scarecrow wins.
  • Bone Dig: Take a big bowl of jelly, spaghetti, or other creepy mush, and randomly place bones inside. Then have the kids dig away for them. The collector of the most bones wins.
  • Mr. Bones' Scavenger Hunt: A search for missing skeleton parts made out of sturdy paper. As an added incentive, lock away some goodies until the guests find all the bones.

Now I'm curious to know, what are your favorite Halloween party tips, tricks, and memories?  By answering you will be entered to win one of 15 Halloween Prize Packages (each a $100 value) from Fanta!

Memories we always went to each of my grandparents houses to show them out costumes since we all lived in the same town. I didn't care if we went trick or treating anywhere else, I just wanted to show off to my grandparents and get my tootsie pops from them!

I remember how exciting it was to come to a house that gave out handfuls of candy instead of just one piece!

I have great memories of watching scary movies on Halloween, and eating as much of my trick or treat candy as possible

One of my favorite games to play at my parties is a "Survivor" auction. I provide each guest with a roll of pennies for their bidding. I place each item in a large box so the guests can't see what they are bidding on. The prizes range from fantastic (special candy, gift cards, etc) to duds (roll of toilet paper, bar of soap, can of spam, etc). And just like in Survivor, the guests never know when the game will end and they are left with just their pennies.

I remember making the girls some bones and blood (breadsticks and sauce) with some bloody eyeballs on worms (meatballs with spaghetti sauce on noodles). For dessert, we had spiderweb brownies (marshmallow and chocolate brownies).

We like to set the tone with great music. Fun songs are Ghostbusters and Grim Grinning Ghosts.

My favorite Halloween memories are pretty recent. Seeing my daughter discovering the joy of dressing up and going house to house.
