I struggle with the organic thing. Part of me really wants to go organic/natural with everything. But, the other part of me knows that I can't possibly afford it. So, I try to strike a balance. We go organic with meat, eggs, milk and yogurt. I also like to by organic produce when it matters...but sometimes I just buy local that isn't necessarily organic.

When it comes to snacks and other dry goods, I just try to make more of them at home, rather than buying high-priced organic/natural snacks. That way I can make sure I know what's going into them, I can do it in bulk and I don't have to spend an arm and a leg. I have a plan to swap with friends too.

I wish I had the motivation to grow a garden of my own...but I seem to put it off every year.

Melissa,

You might also like SOS! The Six O'Clock Scramble to the Rescue. It's a great cookbook and she breaks it down by season so that you can take full advantage of the local produce or stuff from your garden...instead of paying a high price for stuff that's out of season. The meals are super easy to make, use common ingredients and are healthy. She also places tips throughout the book for being eco friendly, without being overly preachy like a lot of green freaks can be.
