confidently wear a bikini once again. The last time I wore a bikini
was way back when I was in college. Now after having five children
my body just isn't the same. I bet you can relate! I am determined
to get back in shape, feel comfortable about my body and by my 34th
birthday on May 11, 2012 wear a bikini once again.
Then I thought I bet there are a ton of women out there
that share this very same goal. If you want to wear that tiny
bathing suit once again I invite you to get bikini ready by spring
right along with me! And to keep you motivated The Healthy Moms
Magazine is going to give away some cool prizes along the
way.
All you need to do in order to participate is blog about
this blog event and leave your link. If you have some goals in
order to become bikini ready by spring share them in a blog post.
Or share your healthy tips on how you got to where you are today if
you already feel comfortable wearing a bikini. What do you do in
order to be thin, fit and confident with yourself and your own
body?
I will be sharing my tips and journey to become bikini
ready every Friday. Blog about this each week to submit multiple
entries to the giveaways. Check back at The Healthy Moms Magazine,
our twitter page (#bikiniready), Facebook or Blog Frog Community to

Calling all Mommy Bloggers! Back by popular demand...Competition for Best Post! This contest was a huge hit in September. I received dozens of quality entries and in the end I selected What's Up Sippy Cup for their hilarious story about their daughter's purple chin and the reason behind it.

After the last competition, I received tons of requests for another one, so as promised, this contest will be now be called the "Blue Ribbon Blog Competition" and I will now offer it four times per year, one for each season. The Winter 2011 contest will be open from December 1st - December 19th. The Fall contest was open only to humorous posts and/or stories. The Winter contest is for any informative posts. It can be informative because it's about crafts, cooking, or simply a life lesson. The rules are simple. Just go to Mommy With Selective Memory for all the details!

Now that the Holidays are approaching, how can families ensure that they don’t overeat?

#1) Exercise more in weeks before the Holidays. This will help you burn extra calories that you may eat during holidays or periods of stress.

#2) Eat breakfast. This will help control your hunger throughout the day and help you avoid overindulging.

#3) Lighten up the recipes. Try using fat free or sugar free ingredients in your favorite recipes to cut down on the calories.

#4) Watch your portion sizes. Skip the temptation of a second helping and enjoy a desert instead. There will be leftovers for tomorrow to enjoy again!

#5) Slowly saver your food. Eating slowly will help you to feel full and satisfied without over-indulging.

For times, when you need a healthier dessert, try incorporating flax seed.

Flax seed is high in most of the B vitamins, magnesium, and manganese, but it is also rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, high in insoluable and soluable fiber, and is perhaps our best source of lignans, which convert in our intestines to substances that tend to balance female hormones. In addition, lignans may help prevent Type 2 diabetes.

A delicious way to incorporate flax into a daily diet is to mix flax powder into oatmeal for a satisfying snack or even to "cheat" every once in awhile and place them into brownies!

	Prep Time: 20 minutes

	Cook Time: 35 minutes

	Total Time: 55 minutes

	Ingredients:

 1/4 lb butter (1 stick)

2 cups erythritol (powdered, not granulated)

 1 Tbsp vanilla

4 eggs (room temp is best)

 1/2 cup cocoa

 1 tsp salt

 4 oz unsweetened chocolate, melted

 2 cups flax seed meal

 1 Tbsp baking powder

Did you know that, according to the National Institute of Health (NIH), only 25 percent of people aged 65-74 say they engage in regular physical activity?

Adults should exercise at any age, even if they have not exercised in the past. The benefits of physical activity accumulate over a lifetime so it is important that those who have exercised in their younger years keep that exercise momentum.

You're never too old to increase your level of physical activity and exercise! Any exercise that gets the heart pumping may reduce the risk of dementia and slow the condition's progression once it starts, reports a Mayo Clinic study published in October 2011 in Mayo Clinic Proceedings.

Are you overwhelmed by how to begin a fitness program? Do you feel that exercise may feel like a chore? Maintaining physical can be easy – and fun!

Include your grandchildren in your new active lifestyle. Play catch or walk to the playground and push your grandkids on the swings.

Have a pet? Taking your four-legged companion on a brisk walk is a fun way to increase your heart rate and improve circulation.

Listen to your favorite song and dance for a few minutes! Be careful that your “dance floor” is clear of objects and that you have adequate room to “boogie.”

As the leaves begin to fall, increase cardiovascular endurance by raking leaves. The raking motion will strengthen your arms and lifting the bags of leaves provides weight training.

Instead of working out for 30-minutes, try breaking fitness activities into three 10-minute “mini workouts” throughout the day. Begin your new exercise program slowly with moderate exercise and work your way up to more vigorous and challenging activities.

Regular exercise is beneficial for people of all ages. Exercise helps to improve muscle and joint flexibility and keeps your heart healthy. It also can improve sleep and helps to maintain a healthy weight.

Do you have additional tips to share re: senior fitness? I'd love to hear from you.

	What do you think?

Are Chemicals Found in Every Day Products Safe for Your Family?

Phthalates and bisphenol A (BPA), Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), Trichloroethylene (TCE) and toluene, and Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) found in the products listed above can lead to health related illnesses like, cancer, infertility, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and cataracts. I believe that further research should be done on these chemicals and products to find out if they are truly causing the increase in certain illnesses.

Over the last three decades there has been an increase in children's brain cancer and leukemia by 40% in the US. I am skeptical as to whether or not the increase in childhood cancer is directly related to the products we use every single day.

Breast cancer has also more than doubled in 30 years. The greatest increase in the US is among younger women who are not at high risk for the disease. Is this also related? I think more research needs to be done before we jump to conclusions.

What do you think? You can read my complete editorial on this issue HERE
