Baking with Kids

Started by OneMommy , author of There's Just One Mommy... - There's Just One Mommy... 2/2/2012 10:11:28 AM

As I sat listening to my husband and daughter bake my b.day cake the other day, I couldn't help but laugh a little at the things I heard/imagined what was happening in the kitchen.

Do you bake with your kids?  Have any funny stories to share?

I do bake with my kids, although sometimes I regret it! I'm not always patient, especially when I need to get dinner on the table!  There have been times when my little helper has been covered in flour from head to foot!

LOL - yes, I have baked with them once or twice, but usually it's Daddy's thing.  The toddler loves to break the eggs - in an iron fist!

Yes, Abby loves baking!  The funniest was when my dad, who takes his baking very seriously, tried to bake with her.  He was so excited and then I could see him trying to stay calm as the ingredients were making it every where but the bowl.  I had to remind him that it's not about the finished product but more about the bonding.  He stayed pretty calm but I know on the inside he was cringing when she was sticking her fingers in the dough!

This past time he saw her, he did all the mixing while she was napping but as soon as she got up she was stealing the cookies from the cooling rack.  Every time he turned around another cookie was missing!

LOL.

That's how it was when we went to make Christmas cookies with my MIL.  I warned her about sprinkles - told her to put a few in a bowl, but she didn't listen and the next thing she knew, sprinkles were everywhere.  But the kids had fun!

They look like they had fun, though, and it still looks yummy to me.

Yes to both.  Sometimes things going all wrong make for the best memories!

Too cute!  What kind of cake did they bake?  How did it turn out?
