Do you want a large family?

Started by Kimberly , author of Raising Olives 7/28/2010 12:33:05 PM

What is a large family, 3 kids, 8 kids, over 10?  What is your definition?

In a perfect world would you like to have a large family?

I'm of the opinion that being willing to have a large family makes the world closer to perfect, what do you think?

My children are 13, 10, 7 and 4. I thought we would have at least 6 if not more. my husband has deployed 7 times in the last 13 years but still he has been home. I pray we have many more but it does not seem to be happening. to me large is more than 5

Well, we have 4. Around here that is a large-ish family. I am from a family of 4 myself and consider it medium sized. In a perfect world, I wouldn't mind having 6 or more kids but I don't think that is for us. I feel that we are done (due to my age and other things) but I wouldn't be sad (maybe overwhelmed, not not sad) if God says otherwise.

Yes, Yes!  We're expecting number 5. As I tell all the neigh sayer's when they ask "HOW MANY children do you want," I reply with "I'm going to keep having babies until Jesus comes back or I can't have babies anymore!"  Usually, this scares them cheeky.  A few years ago I still wasn't sure in my heart "how many" I wanted.  The Lord has just continued to work in both our hearts to where now, we're ready for as many as he'll give us.  Jesus is amazing!

I would like whatever God blesses me with. I have learnt that He knows best! Having said that I am very grateful for my 2 daughters, The first born 1 year and 3 days after a consultant told me I would not be able to have children. She was born on Christmas Day and was my miracle. I find it very hard work but would like more I think.

I would consider any number above what is the average in your area to be large.

I have 9 wonderful children and would love more if the Lord blesses us.  I too agree that having a large family makes the world closer to perfect.  I think 1-2 kids is a small family, 3-4 is a medium size family, 5-6 is a large family and anything 7 or over is a mega family :o)

I would love, love, love to have a large family.  I've always thought of myself as a "cheaper by the dozen" mother & would love any children that God chose to send our way.  I was one of 5 & loved being in a "bigger than normal" family growing up - btw I was the eldest & enjoyed every minute of helping with my baby sisters (& they will be my babies forever).  I think about 5 or so kids is  getting big, but think large is probably over 8!

Renata - I was also the oldest of 5 and loved every minute taking care of my 'babies'.  When my mom was pregnant with the youngest (a boy), she was diagnosed with cancer so I had a lot more responsibility with him and he's always been my special baby.

Well, he just had his first baby 3 days after our youngest was born.  It's so amazing to see him as a father and he is a great daddy.

I was an only child and have wanted a large family for as long as I can remember.  I'm expecting our 6th and we adopted our 4th.  I would love to have another after this if that's what the Lord has for us and I would also love to adopt again.  The older my husband and I get the more we appreciate our children as the treasures they are.  It doesn't get any better than this on planet earth!

I grew up with one brother, and my husband grew up with three sisters.  Prior to getting married we thought we'd have at least 2 children and maybe a max of 4!  Depending on where we were financially.  God has sure changed my thinking on this, and He is changing my husband and well!  We were challenged by an older couple who is helping us with our homesteading endeavors.  When we told them of our desire to be debt free, and used that as an excuse for not having children, they said we should go ahead and have them!  Since then, we have been searching out the Bible to see what God really wants.  We have determined that we want to leave our children in his hands!  If it is His will for us to have a dozen or more! Then we will! :)  I personally can not wait to get started! :)

Yes, I do want a large family.  Since we married, my husband and I have been convicted to allow the Lord to bless us with the children he wants to place in our family.  We had two birth babies in our arms by the time we'd been married 2 1/2 yrs. Then we hit infertility mixed with three miscarriages.  During this time we were blessed with two adopted children.  Now I am expecting what will be our 5th living child in just a few months.  It has been 12 yrs since I delivered a baby!  We feel very blessed all around.  I consider 5 or more kids to be a large family.  I find most people in the USA consider 3 to be big and 4 to be large.

When I had 3, I noticed that people started to give us things b/c we had "a lot of people in our family".  Nearly everyone seems to think we are nuts for having a 5th child.  Occasionally mention that I am hoping to have a few more.
