I went to the mall the other day, which I don't normally do. But we found out on Wednesday that we are having a girl, and for that you must shop.

I had my four and then one that I babysit, and of course I am obviously pregnant.

I got the rudest looks! Mind you, they all had hand buddies, no one was misbehaving through the whole thing, but people just looked at me with a disgusted look on their face! AND THEN THEY SAW MY BELLY.

Like I said, I don't normally go to the mall at all, and if I go it's usually with one or two kids, not the whole kit and kaboodle.

How do you handle situations like this? I felt sooooo out of place and awkward! Just wait until I am pushing a stroller around as well.

I am looking for recommendations for a good children's Bible for my oldest son. He is only two years old, but I want to give him a full Bible--not a Bible "story book." It should be a translation (but not a paraphrase) that is challenging for his vocabulary (I think any translation would fit this criterion given his age), yet understandable enough to hold his attention and manageable for him when he begins learning to read. Hopefully it has colorful pictures to keep his interest at this young age. Currently, I read aloud to him from my NASB study Bible (my translation of choice for accuracy's sake), but the language is awkward for a preschooler. I look forward to studying God's word with my son using his OWN Bible.

Also, I believe in challenging kids to read beyond their current ability. At what age/reading ability do you transition your kids to a more accurate/literal, adult study Bible?

Thank you for your suggestions!

My 14 month-old daughter has always had a small appetite. She has reflux, but it is controlled with Prevacid. When she started getting bumpy gums (only a few months ago) she went off most solids (except for a "mouse nibble" here and there). She cut her first tooth (right lateral incisor) at 13 months. The last two weeks, she's cut two more (bottom middle incisors) and has 3 or 4 that look like they will be cut in the next week or 2. The problem is that now she doesn't even want her bottle (forget about a sippy cup or straw at this point - she won't even put it to her lips). She's at the point now where she's averaging less than 20 oz of her Bright Beginnings Pediatric Soy Drink (basically a soy version of pediasure or boost kid essentials that the doctor recommended due to her small appetite and dairy problems). She's growing and developing normally other than that, but her weight is so low it's almost off the growth chart. I had just gotten it back up by switching to another bottle, and now it's going right back down because the second she started cutting those bottom two teeth, she wanted no parts of it. I've tried backing off on the pressure to eat/drink, but then she happily takes in nothing. Have any of you ever experienced this? Does anyone have any advice?

BTW: I've tried ibuprofen, Tylenol, and Baby Orajel. They seem to make her more comfortable, but have no effect on how much she will eat/drink.

once a month I cook for our church. The budget is $120 which has to include drinks and paper products. I have made chilli and biscuits and gravy and egg caseroles. What are other options. I am feeding between 60-80 people.

What would you like someone to say to your large family when out in public? I have two little ones and love big families-- but don't know what to say to one. I'd love to strike up a conversation with a mom of a large family at the grocery store or a restaurant but don't know how to begin without sounding rude. I try smiling and making some generic "what lovely children you have" comment but mostly get shrugged off. What's the right thing to say that would compliment you?

I read on someone's blog that their family gives only 3 gifts per child for Christmas- based on the 3 gifts the wise men gave to Jesus. Unfortunately, I cannot remember whose blog it was! Anyone have any ideas? Google is not bringing me to the blog I remember reading, although it seems many others have written about it. The one I am specifically thinking of listed the meaning of the 3 gifts to Jesus, and their family's adaptation of those 3 gifts for their children...

Thanks for your help!

I just blogged on the value of Scripture memory verses (http://lettersfromnebby.wordpress.com/2010/10/19/value-of-scripture-memory-verses/). I am wondering if someone can convince me of the value of putting time into this. I am all for knowing your Bible, but does memorizing verses really get you there?

I have a terrific opportunity for Christian Homeschooling bloggers who want to do a book review...

I have an opportunity for 10 Christian Homeschooling bloggers and 5 spots are still unclaimed.

Each blogger would receive a free copy of the book ”For You They Signed” by Marilyn Boyer (Value: $34.99) to keep for participating. (This book is geared toward middle school - high school.)

One of the 10 will also receive a prize package to include the following books:
~Life of Washington by Anna Reed (Value $16.99)
~Mornings & Evenings with Spurgeon (Value $14.99)
~Book of their choice from Master Books
~Copy of ”For You They Signed” for any library or ministry of their choice

Boyer’s book has a full year of character studies centering around the Founding Fathers of our country. Each participating blogger will receive a copy of Boyer’s book and be asked to complete one lesson with his/her children and blog about the importance of teaching our spiritual heritage to our families w/ an excerpt from and a review of the book. Preferable, we would like to have added photos and/or video of blogger’s children interacting with the book/lesson and possibly get quotes from their children about the book.

I will be supplying bloggers with a video trailer for the book and a link to the book on Amazon to include in the review as well as links to Master Books and Marilyn Boyer. We also would ask for bloggers to place a short review of the book on Amazon and Christianbook.com.

A poll will be set up on the Christian HomeSchool Hub (http://christianhomeschoolhub.spruz.com ) for blog readers to select their favorite review and the winner will receive the prize package.

Master Books will be creating/distributing press releases about the blog tour and promoting the event on various social media spaces, so not only will bloggers receive at the minimum a wonderful book to keep, they should also expect many new visitors to their blogs!

Let me know if you would like to participate (and/or can recommend bloggers that might be interested!)

Blessings~

A quick side note. The reason I say "home educating" is that some people homeschool their kids, but everyone teaches ~ home educates ~ their kids at home in one way or another.

Anyway, I have a giveaway for a Download - N - Go unit study giveaway on my blog. It's called Pizza Party and, yes, it does talk about pizza, but also talks about Italy and Italian explorers. It's one of those unit studies that you click on interactive links to great clips and articles and it has printable coloring pages, fun worksheets and even a lap book that you can make. They are supposed to be for grades K-4, but my 8th grader has joined us for Download - N - Go unit studies before and loves them. If you've never tried one before, here is your chance to get one for free. The link to the giveaway is - Pizza Party Giveaway.

I'm homeschooling my 4 yr-old this year and I'm trying to figure out where to buy "Before 5 in a Row" and exactly what things I need to buy. I keep seeing separate books advertised for it and since I'm new to the curriculum, I'm not sure how many "parts" there are in the "series." Can anyone tell me exactly what I need to buy to have the full curriculum and where I can get it?! And I did try to purchase it from the FIAR website, but I couldn't get the screen to come up for the BFIAR!

Homeschoolers--How do you decide which classes and acitivities your kids will participate in? I am as usual trying to decide whatw e will do for the fall. Personally I think it is alright if your doctor has recommended medication for your child. But ideally it is up to the parents. So what is your opinion on medicating children with ADHD? Do you have a child with ADHD? Is he/she on medication for it? Or do you prefer natural herbal remedies to treat your child?
