Oh what a wonderful thing to ask and prepare for. With my last labor I repeated Psalm 121 over and over.
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
Especially the first couple of verses, reminding myself that my help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.
That birth, while my hardest by far, was one of the times that I felt closest to my God. During my pregnancy I had wanted to pray for an easy birth, but I just didn't feel that was the right request, so I had prayed that God would give me contentment and gratitude for the labor that He would send. I prayed that I would welcome and rejoice in each contraction, knowing that each one was part of God's perfect plan for my life and that He would only send exactly what I needed.
God answered my prayer and with nearly every contraction I was able to thank Him for His mercy and grace. And throughout I quoted Psalm 121"from where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord." and Is. 40:31 "They that wait upon the Lord will gain new strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not grow weary, they shall walk and not faint."
I pray that God blessed you with a wonderful, safe birth and a healthy baby.
