Politics as Usual

Started by Miss Giggles , author of Random Giggles 8/4/2010 8:09:47 PM

Every so often I bring politics into my blog. It is not a political blog. But there are certain issues that I feel strongly enough on that I have to say something about.

And today I found myself wondering how often politics enters your blog. Or do you avoid it completely? What would make you say something political on your blog?

I do sometimes on my family blog. Not on my fun blog. Even on the family blog, it's more "This is my opinion and how it affects me"

I don't want people attacking me, so I keep it non-attacking myself.

I rarely do it. Mostly because the responses I get are mostly from trolls. If I post about politics, it's usually something I find funny and nothing too pushy or serious. I avoid confrontation.

I agree. Feelings and opinions formed without thought, knowledge, or reason (ie. prejudice, either favorable or unfavorable) is never a good idea. We do need to form all opinions based on reason and research.

Politics does not always need to result in an argument. One of my good friends is of one party and my husband is of another. I always find it very interesting to watch others watch them talk politics because I can tell they are waiting for it to get ugly. But it never does. Both of them have carefully thought through all of their positions and can discuss them reasonably with out resulting to attacks and rhetoric. It's a beautiful thing to watch.

And that's why I do mention politics on occasion. There are a few issues I have done a lot of thinking, reasoning, and researching on and I feel that I can say what I need to say without starting a fight. Not taking a stand on some of these issues allows the very vocal minority to sound like the majority. I'd rather put my voice out there so that others will know where I stand rather than let them just assume.

On the rare occasion I have had a troll, I've deleted them. I figure it's my domain, my rules.
