I agree. Feelings and opinions formed without thought, knowledge, or reason (ie. prejudice, either favorable or unfavorable) is never a good idea. We do need to form all opinions based on reason and research.
Politics does not always need to result in an argument. One of my good friends is of one party and my husband is of another. I always find it very interesting to watch others watch them talk politics because I can tell they are waiting for it to get ugly. But it never does. Both of them have carefully thought through all of their positions and can discuss them reasonably with out resulting to attacks and rhetoric. It's a beautiful thing to watch.
And that's why I do mention politics on occasion. There are a few issues I have done a lot of thinking, reasoning, and researching on and I feel that I can say what I need to say without starting a fight. Not taking a stand on some of these issues allows the very vocal minority to sound like the majority. I'd rather put my voice out there so that others will know where I stand rather than let them just assume.
On the rare occasion I have had a troll, I've deleted them. I figure it's my domain, my rules.
