Day 31 - Plan the Next Steps for Your Blog

Started by Nirvana Mamma , author of nirvanamamma.com: 8/17/2010 10:52:06 PM

I can’t believe we’re on Day 31.  It’s really bittersweet because I’ve enjoyed this entire process (minus the lack of sleep), but I’m really excited to start putting all of these wonderful ideas into action long term.  I feel transformed, and my blog will continue to transform as well.

Thank you all so much for taking the time out of your busy summer schedules to take this challenge.  I would’ve stopped at “Elevator Pitch” if it wasn’t for all of you wonderfully supportive and talented ladies (and gent!).  It’s really been a pleasure and an experience I will always remember.  If you see me out and about on forums and Twitter, please say “hi”!  I’d love to get to know everyone better.

A VERY special thank you to Problogger (Darren), the SITS Girls (Francesca, Tiffany, Heather, and Kathy), the Blog Frog (Holly and Lori), and the community leads (Jen, Lynda, and Rachael).  You’ve all been the most kindest, helpful, and inspiring people throughout this.  If you ever need anything that you feel I can help with, just say the word.

Now get out there and follow your blogging bliss all!

Erin (Nirvana Mamma)

SOME IMPORTANT INFO

If you want to be an affiliate for the “31 Days to Build a Better Blog” ebook check out the 31DBBB Affiliate Page.

If you’re not finished with 31DBBB, here is a discussion that links to all daily tasks. After Thursday, please use hashtag #DBBB on Twitter to continue the challenge or just to K.I.T.

If you’ve completed 31DBBB, then grab your "I Survived" badge.

PLEASE keep a look out for a discussion in the forum for the survivors.  I’d like to get a full list of those who made it to the end (even the stragglers who still plan on finishing).

Key Concepts

  • Successful bloggers often set aside time to think strategically about their blogs every now and again
  • Figure out the things you feel are most important in blogging and develop a plan for next month by specifying tasks you want to achieve each day

Sample Plan

  • Six posts a week (Sundays are a day off from posting)
  • Each post day having its own type of post
  • Time on Sundays for determining the specifics of each post (topics, titles etc.)
  • An administration task each Monday
  • Promotional activities on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
  • A day for readers (Fridays) for emailing, answering questions etc.)
  • Stats analysis on the last day of the month
  • Brainstorming on the first day of the month

  • You still have to keep up with daily tasks like comment moderation
  • Don’t bite of more than you can chew, or you may get blogger burnout
  • BIG recommendation: Look back over the last 31 days of tasks and identify which ones you might want to perform regularly on your blog.

Questions

  1. What tasks will you continue to perform regularly on your blog?
  2. What is the most important thing you’ve learned throughout 31DBBB?

Plan of Action for My Blog

For the 31 DBBB, I focused on my new blogger blog Positive Kismet and its related twitter account @positive_kismet

  • Finish the Challenges that I didn't complete and keep connecting with other bloggers... We all need commentluv ladies!
  • Put together a long list of bloggers to stay in touch with via commenting/blogging projects and more.
  • Join the Stumble Upon group and reconnect with more bloggers and use that platform again.
  • Do same with other Social network Sites I have joined
  • Develop a schedule of blog posts and other blog visits and stay involved in this 31DBBB community.
  • Keep refining/revamping my new blog Positive Kismet and get back on track with my Wordpress Mirth and Motivation blog.

More later... This has been a great ride!

Thank you Moderators! Thank you Darren! Thank you All!

Eliz

Wow, I can't believe the challenge is over already! It's gone by so fast, and I've learned so much. Thanks again to all involved, and of course to all of my very supportive, very creative SITStahs! ;)

I've gained so much from participating in this challenge, and hope to continue implementing all that I have learned on a daily basis. I know I'll be going over all of the tasks regularly and will continue to tweak and fine tune my blog in the future. I've seen areas that need improvement (and I'm working on those), and I've learned I've been doing some things right all along (yay!). Plus I've begun building great relationships with other bloggers (priceless!). This challenge has been the best thing I could have done for my blogging self!

Thanks again! Peace. ;)

 2. What is the most important thing you’ve learned throughout 31DBBB?

The most important thing I’ve learned throughout 31DBBB is to engage others.  Whether it be through group efforts, collaborations, or calling readers to action, engaging others creates a community that benefits all members.

{sigh...} I'm sad this is the last day.

Next immediate steps: taking time to review the highs of #31DBBB and reflect what really made the most impact to Sunny Bug. There really was so much that I need to go back and digest more. I will reread the posts and comments...& take notes.

Plan: I'm a random poster and don't follow a schedule. My life/experiences dictates what I post. I need to be more consistent with the type of content I'm posting {crafts, tutorials, and recipes}.

Continue communicating & supporting other bloggers. I've met so many creative, fun, and inspirational women over the past month - I will continue to make this a priority.

Step out of my comfort zone. I've taken MANY baby steps along the way, now I need to really strategize what I need to do next. {I'm referring to blog design, html, and some social media}

Thank you to SITS, Blog Frog & Problogger. And thanks to everyone who supported me along the way.

Liz

First of all, I MADE IT!

My goal for going forward with my blog is to keep up more social activities like commenting on blogs, forums, twitter, etc. I also want to work on increasing the number of pages per reader for the site as well as increasing my traffic. Guest posting and linking will be my focuses for improving the overall traffic to my blog.

The most important thing I learned from 31DBBB is that you will never be done. No matter how much time you put in each day you will never run out of things you can do to work on your blog.

yay! What a wonderful challenge this was and though I still have a couple of days to go back and review, this has been amazing!

Thanks for all the support and leadership (all of you). I feel the most important thing I learned is how we can really help each other. Share our stories, spread the word, and support one another! I have seen so many blogs grow and thrive....it's been amazing.

I have also been pushed beyond my comfort zone and that has been a wonderful thing.

This is a constant learning process and I love it...looking forward to what lies ahead:) Thanks again!

What tasks will you continue to perform regularly on your blog?

I will continue to visit other blogs in my niche to research topics for my own blogs, and to comment so I can drive traffic to my blog, and get to know other people in the community.

I will continue to write more list posts, link posts, and review old posts to see how I can update and interlink them.

I will spend more time looking at what my readers' needs are, how they arrived at my blog, and what info they are looking for, based on top posts.

I will continue to ask more questions to encourage comments.

What is the most important thing you’ve learned throughout 31DBBB?

I don't think there is one single important thing. I was already doing some of these activities, since I've been reading Darren's blog since before the Challenge. But I need to go back, re-read the ebook, and re-do some of the activities more in depth, on both blogs.

Thanks so much for this Challenge, I had a great time and learned a lot!

I can't believe we made it through! I think part of my plan going forward is to do it all again on a regular basis, keep reviewing, keep improving.

Congratulations everyone!

I'd love some last feedback:
http://makenart.blogspot.com

1. I can't believe we've reached the end (and survived!). I'm going to keep coming back to these cahllenges and redoing some of them, some of the best ones have been:

Daily
- Quick check of stats
- Reply to comments and email
- Call readers to action by continuing to place questions at the end of posts

Weekly
- Update my posting schedule with plan for the next week
- Comment on the blogs of vistors

Monthly
- Spend a couple of hours sending email to a few readers
- Work on buildign connections with supportive bloggers
- Try to do more guest posts (this is actually one of my targets for 30 things to do before I'm 30)
- Keep going back to check for dead links and updating posts as necessary
- Mindmap of blog ideas
- Look deeper into stats

2. The most important thing I've learnt is to get more involved with the people I 'meet' through blogging - email them, tweet them, comment on their blog. I'm also loving the blogfrog a lot more than I thought I would.

Thanks to the SITS girls and community leaders for setting this all up and of course to the wonderful Darren!
