Day 28: Write a Review Post

Started by Jen , author of whenpigsfly - Journal - Random Thoughts 8/14/2010 7:53:56 PM

The web is used as a resource for gaining advice. As such, ProBlogger recommends writing a review post. A review increases the likelihood that readers will see you as an authority.

Key Concepts:

There are many different ways in which you can write a review post. The most important points are to:

  1. Give an opinion
  2. Give a rating
  3. Be balanced
  4. Think about keywords
  5. Make comparisons
  6.  Use an affiliate link
  7. Say who it's good for
  8. Be personal
  9. Add visuals
  10. Give details on how to obtain items

Questions:

1) Have you written a review post in the past and if so how was it received?

2) For this challenge, what kinds of things could you see yourself reviewing?

We are nearing the home stretch. Keep up the comment love and working through all the tasks.  Thanks to everyone for all the support over this past month.  I've had a blast!

1) Have you written a review post in the past and if so how was it received?

I've written several "light" reviews of documentaries I've watched, mainly praising them and recommending them. I haven't gone too in-depth. They've been well received, and a couple of my readers have commented that they've watched the films as a result.

2) For this challenge, what kinds of things could you see yourself reviewing?

Mostly, books and documentaries that are related to the things I discuss on my blog.

1) Have you written a review post in the past and if so how was it received?

I have done reviews, usually tied in with a giveaway. They are normally received well. The giveaway success depends largely on the type of product. I have one going on now for a Sam's Club GC. The entries are low, I think just because you need to be a member of Sam's to win, which limits the number of people who can enter.

2) For this challenge, what kinds of things could you see yourself reviewing?

I usually review products or services related to kids, home and cooking/food. I used to review every product that came my way, but I've learned to only review products that I'm interested in and that fit my blog. Otherwise I feel like I'm giving away my time for something I'm really not interested in.

1) Have you written a review post in the past and if so how was it received?

I did write a review post.  I reviewed Sandra Bullock's marriage to Jesse James -- and I compared Sandra being blindsided by her husband just as I had been blindsided by my husband in my marriage.

You want to know how it was received?  Are you kidding me?  I was writing about Sandra Bullock!  It was the hottest story in the world on March 22nd 2010 when I posted it.  I received hundreds of readers on that one post alone.  That story brought a lot of readers to my blog and the marvelous thing was that some of them even stayed and became readers of my blog.  That post if you want to read it was called Sandra Bullock Blindsided By Jesse James   http://abadmarriageisfattening.wordpress.com/2010/03/22/sandra-bullock-blindsided-by-jesse-james/

2) For this challenge, what kinds of things could you see yourself reviewing?

I can see myself reviewing other people's blogs.  In fact, I just posted a discussion today called, "What's The Funniest Blog You Have Discovered On The 31DBBB Challenge?"  The funniest blog that I have discovered on the 31DBBB Challenge is Erin Honestly's blog called Oh Honestly Erin.  http://www.ohhonestlyerin.com/

Would I ever review anyone else's blog again in the future? Never!  If broke my heart broken heart to discover that Erin Honestly was a funnier writer than me.

1) Have you written a review post in the past and if so how was it received?

I haven't written a review post - but I have been asked, I'm just trying to determine what item to post about - something related to baking I'm sure.

2) For this challenge, what kinds of things could you see yourself reviewing?

I would defintely review baking or cake decorating items or party items or decorations - something related to entertaining - I guess :|

I (obviously!) do reviews pretty often, and would consider them a backbone of my blog. They must be received fairly well, since I tend to get feedback about reviewed products more often than non-reviewed ones.

My latest is here: It's a 10 Leave In Product

I love doing reviews, and try to follow all of Darren's advice above.

This was my first review because the right opportunity had never presented itself...unless you consider this "review" of why I'm in love with Martha Stewart's Cookie book. {ok, I'll admit I have zero will-power over these chocolate chip cookies!}

For this task, I reviewed a new book/guide on how to launch a craft business. Since I've just recently started my own crafty/baking business, it was a great investment to learn about and have a better grasp of business-side of the process. I'm actually re-reading it in case I missed anything. I think this is the perfect book for any crafter interested in taking the leap of faith into the craft business world.

Check out my Crafty Superstar post here.

In the future, I would love to review craft products, baking & decorating essentials, cookbooks, and maybe craft events.

1) Have you written a review post in the past and if so how was it received?

I've reviewed tv shows and movies that had characters with autism.

2) For this challenge, what kinds of things could you see yourself reviewing?

The only thing I would consider reviewing are books on autism and more movies and tv shows that were about apects of autism.

1) Have you written a review post in the past and if so how was it received?

  • I've written a number of reviews in the past about green products I like to use, and have had sent to me for review.

2) For this challenge, what kinds of things could you see yourself reviewing?

  • I've reviewed all kinds of things - organic chocolate (that was rough!), shampoo, lip balm, soap, organic virgin coconut oil... I enjoy writing these kinds of posts since it gives my readers useful information (I hope) on green products they can use everyday to make their lives simpler and greener.

Here's a link to my last review for natural shampoo.

1 - I've written a few reviews in the past - kind of by accident while recounting me travels: hotels, restaurants etc.

2 - I think they were ok - people probably didn't notice they were reviews in particular more comments, I'll try to incorporate more of a review aspect - went to a great restaurant last night and I've recently got some new camping and traveling kit that I loved.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! Sorry, but I am so far behind in this challenge - and then, last night, I wrote a review post that I had been meaning to write for a while...and voila, that is today's challenge! I must be psychic (or just really jammy!)

1) Have you written a review post in the past and if so how was it received?

Yes, I have written a few, and they are usually received well...except by the company concerned if I don't happen to like the item. Like today's one, which I am quite nervous about!

2) For this challenge, what kinds of things could you see yourself reviewing?

I reviewed an organic juice drink today. Usually, it's books, toys and things like that. Typical mummy-blogger fare :)
