Day 19: Write an Opinion Post For Your Blog

Started by Lynda , author of Daily Window {Photography. Photo Editing. Inspiration.} 8/5/2010 9:31:10 PM

Welcome to Day 19 of the challenge, ladies!

I've been so impressed by your will to work together and produce great content.  You ladies really are nothing short of amazing!

Today's task is to write an opinion post.  Simply put, opinions get more clicks.  Maybe the opinion is outrageous and you'll get a lot of click through from people both supporting and opposing your view.  Or perhaps your opinion isn't very controversial at all, but your authority on the matter can help influence others.  It's important to let out your opinion every once in a while, lest you leave your readers wondering if you're a real person.

On to today's questions!

1. Have you written opinion posts in the past? (LINKS!)  If so, do you notice a difference in the way your writers respond to these posts?

2. Do you tend to like reading opinion posts, or do they make you uncomfortable?

Please make sure to provide a link to your most recent opinion post for this challenge!  I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

I've actually written two recently. One was about whether or not we were over-sensitizing our kids and the other was about "Parents vs the Childless" I haven't seen much difference in the response beyond they're less of a "I've been there" type of support versus an "Amen sister!"

I like reading opinion posts quite a bit, but if I don't agree I tend to get fired up. It makes me stressed..... almost :hehe:

Very few... I try not to be overly controversial with my posts. I have written two minor ones tho:
Good Guys vs Bad Guys
Homeschool Kids Don't get in Trouble

The biggest thing I notice is that there are no comments to these posts, but the number f visitors tends to be good. Ah well... must be too light of opinions?

2. Do you tend to like reading opinion posts, or do they make you uncomfortable?
It's weird, but I don't mind reading opinion posts. They might get me worked up too much tho... and I don't like the anxious sick feeling I get when reading opposing views. If it gets too bad, I will just stop reading. No one is forcing me to read it.

(EDITED: Went back and wrote up a NEW post for this task:

Stop Blabbing, Stupid )

I love writing opinion post and they are most popular post.

Love reading them. I'm a debater by nature so even if I agree with the person I might spit the opposite just to stir it up.

I'm a crafter/baker/decorator blogger...so I suppose I could give my opinion on homemade vs. store-bought frosting...so far, I haven't posted any opinion posts {yet}.

A couple of years ago, I started out blogging about random life stuff...I seemed to rant A LOT and post a lot of opinion posts. It all seemed so negative - and re-reading the posts was not a fun experience for me - at all. I thought if I wrote about my opinion {whatever it was} I could move on and get on with life. This wasn't always the case. Reading it was uncomfortable for me...so I can only imagine what other readers thought.

When I started Sunny Bug, I decided to stay more positive, hence "sunny". I still may do the frosting opinion post though...I have a lot of opinions about frosting - especially chocolate ;)

My whole blog is my opinions. I try not to offend. I find my taste in pop culture is a tad off the norm. Certain movies or books I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, but I try to respect that everyone doesn't feel that way. It's a little harder to impress me and that's why I started my blog. I feel if I liked it, then it really is good. Here's my take on a movie everyone loved.

I serendipitously wrote one today, about irrational mom fears. I guess my readers are a lot like me, because they all go "hear hear"

I am very uncomfortable with very conservative opinions because I feel judged, but I hold my peace. I will seldom make a comment on an opinion post unless I agree with the vast majority of what the poster is saying, otherwise i'd feel like i'm just ratcheting.

Today's post is controversial, and entirely true.

I've written a couple of "opinion" posts - though they're positioned more as advice vs. opinion.

Basically, I have a very obvious tone in my writing but never try to preach about anything as the absolute right answer. I feel these type of posts have worked best if discussed openly and with disclaimers that this is simply my take on the matter.

I do love reading them and often am more encouraged to comment on opinion posts - that's why I like to ask for feedback at the end of mine.

1. Have you written opinion posts in the past? (LINKS!)  Yes... http://nightlightjourneys.blogspot.com/2010/07/life-on-both-sides-of-workingsahm-mom.html If so, do you notice a difference in the way your writers respond to these posts? Yes, comments came from both sides of the issue, which I thought was great, some directly on the blog, others were tweeted or posted on fb.

2. Do you tend to like reading opinion posts, or do they make you uncomfortable? I like to read other people's opinion posts.  Gives me greater insights into who they really are.

I have tried a couple of times. I have not noticed the difference in response to these.

2. Do you tend to like reading opinion posts, or do they make you uncomfortable?

I do like reading opinion posts. I try to read op-eds in the newspaper. I like to see why people think the way they do.

Opinion Post: Please Give Me A Real Cooking Show!

Writing opinions makes me nervous because I don't want to offend anyone. Thou somedays, I'm all for them.

1. Have you written opinion posts in the past? (LINKS!)  If so, do you notice a difference in the way your writers respond to these posts?

Yes! I love to write opinion posts because I need an outlet when I get all riled up about something.  Today I combined and made a post and a new sneeze page with some of my favorite opinion posts.  Birds? Meet Stone! Days 18 & 19.

2. Do you tend to like reading opinion posts, or do they make you uncomfortable?

I love reading them!  I love commenting on them.  Because I either can give a big "A-MEN!" or disagree (in a sane, rational, respectful way of course!).  I really love it when I can provide people with information or a point of view they would not have known otherwise.
