Day 18: Create a Sneeze Page

Started by Jen , author of whenpigsfly - Journal - Random Thoughts 8/4/2010 9:55:14 PM

A sneeze page is a concept ProBlogger came up with as a strategy to direct readers deeper into a blog by highlighting previously written posts. You can create a sneeze page with posts revolving around a single theme or a period of time. By promoting it prominently on your homepage, you can develop another opportunity for people to link within your site.

Questions:

1) Have you created a sneeze page before and if so has it been successful in driving traffic to other parts of your blog?

2) What type of sneeze page do you see yourself creating if you haven't done on before?

Leave a link to a post for this task if you create one.

I haven't created a sneeze page before.  I think this is a great idea. I do think that just creating a post that highlights specific internal posts has limited utility unless it sits on your homepage or is easily accessible through your main navigation bar.  Otherwise, it will get lost amidst all of your other posts.

I went into my site and did create a listing with links of 5 of my favorite posts and placed it on my side bar. I labeled it my "best of."  We'll see if it generates any additional traffic within my site.

I didn't have a sneeze page before but I love the idea and I had fun creating one!

I have a page called "Recommended Tools" where I had a bunch of links to useful tools for blogging and such and that's the one that I chose to make into a sneeze page. I linked my posts which give blogging and other relevant information into that page.

I think it's great because it helps my readers find information that could be useful to them and of course it helps me with the interlinking and more page views. A win/win!

I don't have a sneeze page... is this a permanent page, like an About or Intro/Welcome page?

I have created posts pointing people to other related posts within my blog. I also have the PostRank widget to point out my most popular posts too.

I think my sneeze page would best be my About Page... and it's kinda already like that, but needs an update.

(Edit: Went in and updated my About Page only to realize that my coupon class is also a great SNEEZE page! Woowho!)

Answers:

1. I think I created a sneeze page without knowing it. I have a "Tips and Hints" page that can be reached from the main page. Its still a work in progress though!

2. I'm still thinking about this one, trying to brainstorm!

Maria of the Sea just did a sneeze page as a guest post for me. She took 5 of her best posts and created a reason for grouping them together. It works! It's a brilliant way to re-cycle old posts and bring them back to the front of your blog (or mine in this case).

I've done it before. At first, I felt like I was ripping my readers off. But since that time, I've come to realize that people enter my blog from different google searches or from jumping around using link within or clicking links. Because of that, everything is new to them and I just have to help them find something good to read. A summary page of 5 links works well.

I love sneeze pages!

Here's the link to one I've done before:

I haven't created a sneeze page before and am currently brainstorming today's task. I think it's an AMAZING idea... kind of one of those "well, duh..." moments where I'm left wondering why I didn't think of this before. Darren is brilliant :)

Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!!

I recently did a "sneeze page"...I mean I did it inadvertently with the inter-linking task early in the #31DBBB challenge with Looking Back - it was sort of a walk down memory lane and highlighting some of my baking/crafting successes and events over the past few months. It generated some traffic, but I think I may have missed some promoting ideas and opportunities.

I have some thoughts about future sneeze pages...highlighting my favorite baked goods, decorating ideas, and crafts. I only have about 50 posts under my belt, so I definitely need more content. I love this idea though!!

I hadn't really done a sneeze page before.  I made a favorites page.  I really like it.  It takes some of the clutter off my sidebar where I had previously placed a list of favorite posts.

I worked a lot to create an "index" page for my blog, and i LOVE it. It's here: All Reasons (so far)

I have yet to figure out if it spreads traffic around, but at any rate it is invaluable as reference for my internal linking!

Aaaand today's post: Reason #59 – Everyone says I’m a bad mom, so it must be true

1) Have you created a sneeze page before and if so has it been successful in driving traffic to other parts of your blog?

  • I have create sneeze-like pages on my blog in the navigation bar.  I do think it has helped readers find more of my older posts.  Of course my blog is only about four months old...

2) What type of sneeze page do you see yourself creating if you haven't done on before?

  • I like this idea, but haven't decided on one specific format.  I like the idea of making different kinds of sneeze pages, in hopes to keep my content as fresh as possible. ;)
