Day 15: Find a Blog Buddy

Started by Rachael , author of Scientific Nature of the Whammy 8/2/2010 1:04:33 AM

Wow!  It's the start of a new week and day 15, which means we're now halfway through the 31 days of our challenge.  I hope everyone is having a wonderful time and feeling refreshed and ready to go after the weekend.

Today's task is to find a blog buddy.  Darren points out in the ebook that bloggers who work together often have more success in building their blogs.  You can find one blogger to work with, or a small group and commit to work together.

Some of the benefits of working with another blogger include gaining feedback before publishing, sharing link love and communities, and sharing guest posts with each other.

It is a good idea to find a blogger at a similar level and in your niche.  Here's a link to an article on the Problogger blog about How to Find a Blog Buddy.  Forums like BlogFrog can be a great place to team up!

Questions:

1) Have you ever collaborated or worked with another blogger to mutually grow or improve your blog?

2) How have you reached out to other bloggers in your niche?  What has worked best for you to make connections with other bloggers?

As always, please leave a link if you've posted today, and try to visit the person before you in the comments!

  • I have not done this in the past, however, I have begun to make some connection with others since the #31DBBB challenge began.  It's be great for bringing me out of my shell (I'm a very shy person - even on the internet).

  • I've emailed a small number of bloggers in my niche, and have begun to interact with other bloggers on Twitter.  I've been setting up guest post opps both for myself on other blogs, as well as finding people to guest post on my site.  I've also begun trying to make some blogging buddies out of the bloggers I like and enjoy reading, as a means of networking to help promote our work. ;)

I've done a guest post and am setting up a skype interview with a blogger in my niche.

Emailing seems to work well.  Since starting 31dbbb I've built up a few connections (guesy posting), some out of my niche. It'll be intersting to see how the connections develop over time.

I've also recently spotted some brand new blogs in my niche so I'm going to fire off some emails to them today!

This is such hard work, but great for me and my blog!

I haven't tried this, but it seems like a great idea.  I've looked around at a bunch of different blogs and have only spoken to one person about her blog.  We didn't go in depth because I hadn't gotten serious at that time.  Looks like I need to find myself a buddy!

i am still looking for a blog buddy.  i have met a few blog friends that i've shared ideas with, done guest posts, blog swapped, etc.  i've reached out to a few other folks, and will continue to do so.  hopefully i'll find some more blog friends.

No i've never do anything that intense.

2) How have you reached out to other bloggers in your niche? What has worked best for you to make connections with other bloggers?

I have made a list of a couple of blogs and plan on sending them an email explaining what the benefits if we collaborate and if they would be interested.

There is currently a discussion going on Blog buddies looking for blog buddies I am very dedicated to blogging and believe that if you get the right support as group you can do wonders :)

question 1) I have found what I would consider a blog buddy (also turned friend) naturally just through reading and commenting on each others blogs. We found we had lots in common and then started emailing etc. We've done things to help each other like swapping tips, tweeting a post, or linking up to each others posts on our own blogs... but have never discussed any kind of strategy to do this deliberately.

I would say it started more out of goodwill and common values and interests more than anything, and just generally liking each others' blogs... but I'll have to ask her what she thinks about what we could do to be more intentional about growing our blogs together. I think this is a great idea and one I will definitely explore.

question 2) I've reached out to other bloggers through forums like BlogFrog and MBC, through commenting and sometimes emailing, and recently through Twitter. I'm finding BlogFrog and Twitter to be my new faves.

Qu.1 - Absolutely, this is one of the best things I've found about blogging, 'meeting' other bloggers who you can ask for advice, proofreading, guest post etc. Although all the people so far have been more experienced so it's not really been a two way things so much.

Qu.2 - I've found thes best way it to comment on their blog regularly then to contact them by email. That's more like a personal contact between the two of you.

I have worked with a few people to get answers to questions that I have as a new blogger. I love the idea of collaboration on posts, and doing guest posts.  I am SO new to blogging that I haven't gotten this far with building relationships, yet.

My main source of connection has been leaving comments on other blogs.  I REALLY need to become more involved in Twitter, because I think that is the most powerful social networking tool for bloggers right now.

I work with a lot of bloggers. I think we've just become friends over time. It's not that we actually TALK about growing each other's blogs or helping each other out, we have just found ourselves doing it because we have a mutual respect for each other's work.

2) How have you reached out to other bloggers in your niche?  What has worked best for you to make connections with other bloggers?

I think, for me, it works best if I usually begin by commenting a lot. Then if I feel as if a blogger and I "click," I may send that blogger an email. I have also found that using Twitter and FB have worked well for me in connecting to other bloggers.

This is how I usually go about getting to know other bloggers. I comment and see if they comment on my blog. If it seems like there is a connection then sometimes I reach out via e-mail. I've made some friends this way.  It's been terrific.
