Day 8: Interlink Posts

Started by Jen , author of whenpigsfly - Journal - Random Thoughts 7/25/2010 9:32:31 PM

Can you believe we have made it through the first week of the challenge?  It's been a wild ride so far.  Just remember to pace yourself.  We've got another three weeks to go.  Let's keep the great comments and support coming!

Key Concepts:

Interlinking posts within your blog on a regular basis is a good practice to get into.  It helps to make your blog more user friendly to readers, it can help with search engine page rankings and it encourages readers to visit other parts of your blog.  Adding internal links to old posts is a way to feed them into updated versions.  They can also provide further reading to relevant older posts.

Questions:

1) How do you go about interlinking your posts?

2) How often do you find yourself providing internal links and will you go back to older posts to add new links?

If you have written a post for this task or would like to share one from your archives in which you have utilized internal links, share the post with the rest of us.

I also use linkwithin, but that's just a teaser I think. I liberally will link back to any relevant posts.

2) How often do you find yourself providing internal links and will you go back to older posts to add new links?
I do it with out thinking, so I am not really sure how often I will link to other posts. But I have not gone back to older posts and linked them to newer ones- though I probably should.

1) How do you go about interlinking your posts?

Now that I am blogging more regularly, I will be able to do this more often. I originally had trouble deciding on a niche, but now that it's set, I will have more interlinking materials.

2) How often do you find yourself providing internal links and will you go back to older posts to add new links?

Nowhere near often enough! I see the value in this and if I have time, I will def go back and do this.

Thinking about both of my sites, this is ONE more thing I've never done. Didn't occur to me. I guess I never reference any of my other posts.

And here I was thinking I had a great handle on my blogging. tee hee hee So far to go...

I just created a post for this challenge. Hope I did it right and didn't overdo it! LOL

I'll take anyone's advice. =)

1. I use the YARRP plug-in for WP however after reading today's lesson I will start doing this manually too as I can definitely see the benefits.

2. As stated above I use an plugin which automatically does this for each post but I will make a point of going back to older posts regularly and doing it manually.

I've just added an old link to my previous ebook to a post I did a couple of days ago for my new ebook called Aromatherapy Gifts.

I'll be honest, I have a relatively new blog with not a lot of posts. I'm slowly adding new posts (3 a week-ish). However, I have not interlinked, because I don't have anything previous that would link well. However, from the networking link post I wrote earlier this week, I have worked it to write a part two down the road and I will interlink them.

Once I get some more content, I will take this into consideration as I have never thought about interlinking before.

Mona, I thought linking your name to your About page was brilliant! LOL Maybe I'm too simple, but I thought it was a great idea. =)

Rose, thanks for sharing about that plug-in will have to look into that in a bit!

1) How do you go about interlinking your posts?

Manually. Usually will have several tabs open and look into old posts to link it with.

2) How often do you find yourself providing internal links and will you go back to older posts to add new links?

I do this every so often especially if I post about topics that I had previously blog about. It gives some life back to the old posts.

Here's an example of my interlink post: Flying Alone With A Child? Read This First.

Wow, someone just unsubscribed! Guess they didn't care to be reminded about my giveaways. It makes me sad to lose subscribers. No one ever tells me why. Since this site is only reviews & giveaways, I must've done "something". Sigh...maybe I can't handle the truth?

I really try to be careful not to be excessive here, while at the same time finding good opportunities. No one wants to read a post that is only links- but, for example, I was talking about how I was missing the connection I had with people due to our moving, which directly related to my effects on location post. When it make sense and helps you tell your story, you should.

2) How often do you find yourself providing internal links and will you go back to older posts to add new links?

I don't know how many I would go back to-the ones that truly relate to my blog and what I'm trying to communicate, yes. Every post to find a link? No. At the end of the day, my blog has to be my message.
