Too busy to comment?

Started by Liz McLachlan , author of Sunny Bug 7/25/2011 6:51:23 AM

Hi everyone! I realize that our busy lives sometimes leaves us with little time. I know I've been guilty of not leaving comments...so I'm wondering, have any of you noticed a decline in the number of comments on your blog? I have growing followers and my stats are higher than ever but comments are at ZERO.

Is not commenting the new trend?

I've seen two summers with low comments. I do think folks are super busy in the summer. They likely stop by, love your stuff, but must rush on to others or off the computer. Enjoy the higher stats and just know more comments will follow come fall.

Oh, also ... I just went by to comment on your blog, but there's no name/URL option. I think more and more folks are not commenting if they have to use one of the other options. (I'm one of those.) Try adding the name/URL option and I bet your comments go up.

Cute blog. :)

I've noticed a decline in comments, yes.  At one point I had no comments for a week, and then I found out there was a box checked saying you had to be logged in to comment.  I was glad it was a simple tech issue to deal with...

I'll try to stop by your blog to check it out as soon as I get the natives settled down!

It could be the summer, vacations, etc. I haven't seen that, but I visit and comment on other blogs, so I tend to get some feedback.

Try some different tactics with the "titles" of your posts. Most time I didn't know what your topics were about unless I clicked on them when I checked out your blog. Also, try another plugin (not sure what they have for blogger) because everyone might not have the options available to leave a comment.

Here are some you can check out:

Give it time, things will pan out especially during the holidays.

Thanks for the great feedback. I'll go back and check the plugin options for posts & the name/url option- both are great ideas!

Don't worry about your comment numbers as much. I've noticed that the only way I get comments is if I leave a ton of comments on other people's blogs. If you don't have the time to leave comments, then you won't get any in return.  Page views is more important than comments. (I have been blogging since 2007) Generally you will see fewer comments in the summer.  Don't worry so much about it. Work on SEO and social media marketing to get your page views up. That is more important than comments. I hope this helps! Good luck to you!

It is certainly the school hols here in England, if not the rest of the world, so there are likely to be many people who are too busy to comment at the moment.

The ability to like something on FB has made actual comments go own. People are more likely to repost or tweet your blog post v leaving a comment.

Yes I am guilty.  I really like looking at other peoples blogs but I rearly comment... Why, you ask? I think sometimes I'm just lazy.  I'm sure I'm not the only one but I am sometimes too lazy to comment.

If the post provokes emotion in me (positive or negative) I'm more likely to post.

Eye candy really makes me post because it brings on and joyful emotion.

A good quetion though.  Off to visit some blogs :)
