Over the years of raising our children I've often related
the stories of my life to them.

their birth stories
wonderful "God sightings"
big things/little things God has done
victory over sin

They LOVE these stories and always beg
for me to write them down. Well, I'm coming near the end of writing
down the story of their dad and I. I call the series How I Met Your Father.
Today's episode was The Engagement
So many times in the scriptures God would tell Israel to teach
HIS stories to their children. They would raise up monuments and He
even set up some of the festivals as a remembrance. Passing on the
stories of God's mighty work in our lives is part of our children's
spiritual heritage. These stories tell them, from infancy, that
their God is a big and powerful God who changes the lives of His
children.
Are YOU telling your stories to your
children to get them excited about their OWN walk of faith with
this wonderful Lord? What are their favorite stories?

Last year I wrote a series on beauty. It's something I think we
all struggle with, the world is constantly telling us to be
discontent with what we look like. We feel like failures if we
can't lose weight easily or if we don't fit the Hollywood ideal for
beauty. With the new year well underway, I wanted to post a
reminder for all of us (myself INCLUDED) of how God intended for
our marriages to be confident in our sexual attraction for one
another, regardless of how our bodies have changed.
I'm hoping this WILL be an encouragement to all of us and a
reminder of God's design for marriage.

holidays, thousands of parents will – for the first time – discover
eating disorders that developed during their child’s first
semester. Because the transition to college is one of the two most
common life stages in which eating disorders develop, it is
important for parents to be vigilant for symptoms of eating
disorders as their teens return home for the mid-year break. Read

I can't even imagine a world where I couldn't research and ask questions endlessly about my children's health... and of course take them to see a doctor.

The horrible reality is that only those of us fortunate to be literate and have Internet access can experience the freedom of endless, reliable information and support. And even fewer can call up and book a doctor's appointment or drive a few blocks and get to a hospital.

I live in Canada and I'm thankful to have access to a public medical system with doctors and hospitals when I need them. Our system may be flawed and plagued by long wait times, but I'm grateful to have it.

And I'm also grateful for the instant information and community support I find online. It blows my mind when I think of how recently the amazing equalizer of the Internet took over.

If I have a question about my children's health or I wonder how to teach them something or how to talk about a difficult subject... I often go online.

Yes, if it's an issue that requires a doctor, I go to a medical clinic or book an appointment to see their family doctor.

My first born Julia gave us several medical scares in her first couple years and her pediatrician knew us well. But again, I didn't have to rely only on his opinion. I took the information he gave me and I went online to learn more and ask my friends questions.

When Janice sought answers to her daughters apparent facial tics, she was blessed to be able to take Olivia to a pediatrician, who ordered an EEG, which led to an appointment with a pediatric neurologist who diagnosed stereotypy.

The wonderful circle of shared information and support continued when Janice shared the diagnosis of stereotypy on our blog.

With access to medical doctors as well as information and community support online, parents are so much better equipped to understand and make better decisions for the health and happiness of their children.

I just hope and pray that more people get access to the full circle of information and medical intervention and that children everywhere get the help they need.

	Hello Fellow Recyclers!

My name is Rosie and I have a terrific opportunity that I would love to tell you about. Having a full time job or being a stay at home mom is very tiresome and time consuming. Job opportunities are very hard to come by and very few pay as much as you would deserve. I run an awards incentive program that awards people with full time jobs and stay at home moms with CASH and the ability to help the environment at the same time. The Rosie Program is an innovative and easy way to make money without the stress and time consumption of a full time job. There are only two things you need to make money off of this program. You need to have junk that you do not want anymore and would like to be recycled and a social networking site to spread the word to family and friends. If it sounds too good to be true check out our website, where you can get more information on this program and how easy it is to make money out of the convenience of your own home.

Now that the Holidays are approaching, how can families ensure that they don’t overeat?

#1) Exercise more in weeks before the Holidays. This will help you burn extra calories that you may eat during holidays or periods of stress.

#2) Eat breakfast. This will help control your hunger throughout the day and help you avoid overindulging.

#3) Lighten up the recipes. Try using fat free or sugar free ingredients in your favorite recipes to cut down on the calories.

#4) Watch your portion sizes. Skip the temptation of a second helping and enjoy a desert instead. There will be leftovers for tomorrow to enjoy again!

#5) Slowly saver your food. Eating slowly will help you to feel full and satisfied without over-indulging.

For times, when you need a healthier dessert, try incorporating flax seed.

Flax seed is high in most of the B vitamins, magnesium, and manganese, but it is also rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, high in insoluable and soluable fiber, and is perhaps our best source of lignans, which convert in our intestines to substances that tend to balance female hormones. In addition, lignans may help prevent Type 2 diabetes.

A delicious way to incorporate flax into a daily diet is to mix flax powder into oatmeal for a satisfying snack or even to "cheat" every once in awhile and place them into brownies!

Did you know that, according to the National Institute of Health (NIH), only 25 percent of people aged 65-74 say they engage in regular physical activity?

Adults should exercise at any age, even if they have not exercised in the past. The benefits of physical activity accumulate over a lifetime so it is important that those who have exercised in their younger years keep that exercise momentum.

You're never too old to increase your level of physical activity and exercise! Any exercise that gets the heart pumping may reduce the risk of dementia and slow the condition's progression once it starts, reports a Mayo Clinic study published in October 2011 in Mayo Clinic Proceedings.

Are you overwhelmed by how to begin a fitness program? Do you feel that exercise may feel like a chore? Maintaining physical can be easy – and fun!

Include your grandchildren in your new active lifestyle. Play catch or walk to the playground and push your grandkids on the swings.

Have a pet? Taking your four-legged companion on a brisk walk is a fun way to increase your heart rate and improve circulation.

Listen to your favorite song and dance for a few minutes! Be careful that your “dance floor” is clear of objects and that you have adequate room to “boogie.”

As the leaves begin to fall, increase cardiovascular endurance by raking leaves. The raking motion will strengthen your arms and lifting the bags of leaves provides weight training.

Instead of working out for 30-minutes, try breaking fitness activities into three 10-minute “mini workouts” throughout the day. Begin your new exercise program slowly with moderate exercise and work your way up to more vigorous and challenging activities.

Regular exercise is beneficial for people of all ages. Exercise helps to improve muscle and joint flexibility and keeps your heart healthy. It also can improve sleep and helps to maintain a healthy weight.

Do you have additional tips to share re: senior fitness? I'd love to hear from you.

I know this is going to be controversial and I am sorry that I am bringing this up if it offends anyone, but I have been struggling with this topic from the very beginning when I started blogging back in 2007. I love reading and commenting on blogs and blogging etiquette says that you should comment on the blogs owned by the bloggers that leave you comments. So that is what I do and what I have done for years now. However I find commenting on blogs very time consuming and I am very very busy. When I do take the time to comment on blogs I make sure I read the article and say something related to what the blogger is saying. Sometimes I only have time to type a few words but I try to say something. I'll admit I do have days where I am so busy that I just do not have time set aside to read and comment on blogs. But when I do take the time for this I expect to receive comments in return, but this never happens. I am wondering if it is even worth my time reading other people's blogs. After all, I get plenty of page views from the social media marketing that I do for my blog which requires a lot less time. Are any of you running into this same issue? I am a veteran to blogging so you'd think I wouldn't have to work so hard to get comments on my blog.

As a blogger, do you do a holiday gift guide for your readers? If so, how do you find the products to include? Do you stay within a theme? Is it consistent with your blog? What is your vetting process like?

I did one the first year I had my blog, but haven't done one since. Instead, I usually put together a compilation of gift guides from around the web. But, in addition to working with another company to get considered for blogger gift guides (anybody interested in reviewing chocolate?), I'm also considering doing one for myself as well.

In the movies, women are never sitting in waiting rooms praying they'll be granted a delivery room.

But for my first delivery, I spent four days waiting to get a hospital room AFTER my water had broken.

And the second time round, all I could think about was... "Will I get a room in time to have an epidural?"

I don't like giving birth. I love my babies and I thank God for my two long awaited pregnancies that both brought me beautiful baby girls, but I don't want to do it again.

Pushing a baby out of my body scares me. The pain scares me. The fear that something will go wrong and my baby won't survive scares me. And most of all the fear that panic will take over my body scares me.

But what makes me angry is that on top of all that fear, the main trigger of my anxiety was that there would not be room in the hospital for me to get a delivery room and an epidural.

I am so very grateful to live in Canada where we have publicly available medical care and I have the opportunity to give birth in a hospital. But I'm frustrated that the medical care system isn't being funded well enough. Women in labor should not have to worry about getting a delivery room.

When I was pacing up and down the hospital hallways before my first delivery, I watched a woman writhing in the pain of contractions, unable to be given a bed or any pain medication because the hospital was too full.

She was left to labor until full dilation next to me on a waiting room chair. Only at the last moment was she rushed to a room to push out the child.

I was enraged. And I was scared. I couldn't do it. I couldn't labor in the waiting room with no pain medication. The fear made me sick.

For my first delivery, I was eventually given a delivery bed and induced four days AFTER my water had broken.

And as my second delivery neared, all I could think about was, "Will I get a bed?"

In the end, I did get a bed, but barely in time. They injected the massive epidural needle into my spine, but it didn't have time to take effect and I pushed through a pain worse than I could have imagined.

I think I pushed fewer than six times... and Sophia burst through my pain and into the intern's hands. (I'd gotten a bed... just not quite a doctor.)

I can barely remember the rest. I was in shock. She was in my arms and I held her... I see proof in the photos. But I was lost in the aftermath of fear and pain. I know I was in love with her instantly. I know I was thankful and thrilled to have my baby safely in my arms. But I can't really remember it.

I was blessed. I was fortunate. Both times I did get the bed. I did have safe deliveries and I think I actually feel guilty that I got to be one of the lucky ones.

I live in a country where - most of the time - women get to give birth in a hospital. They usually are given a delivery bed in time for pain medication and they don't have to go into debt to pay for the room. But I still find myself angry that a woman should be worried about getting a hospital bed and an available doctor to deliver her baby. How can the health of women and their babies not be a top priority?

	So I was lucky. I shouldn't complain.

But then again, maybe I should... because there are many others in my country and other countries that aren't as lucky.

Every laboring woman, everywhere, should only have to worry about pushing. Because if you've ever given birth, you know THAT is something to worry about.

Childbirth is such an incredible moment, and I’d love to know what went through your mind when you held your baby for the first time? (Hopefully you weren't overcome with panic and fear as I was, and you can actually remember.)
