Tell us about you!

Started by Jeanne , author of A peaceful day 4/7/2010 11:37:51 PM

Hello there!!

There are lots of people in my community that I don't know.  I do know some of you, but not many.  That doesn't make us a community really, does it?  I'd like to rectify that.

So, for those of you who don't know me, I'm Jeanne.  I'm mummy to Jemimah.  She's eight.  Together with Jemimah's daddy, we live in a town of 1200 people in rural Australia. We're townies, but we love the wide open spaces of our sunburnt country and get outside as often as possible for a walk in the bush.

Jemimah is homeschooled using the Ambleside Online variety of a Charlotte Mason education.  If that doesn't make sense then you'll learn all you need to know about these two on my blog, A Peaceful Day.  Our home is a learning home, which means you'll see very little difference between a schoolday and a weekend - we learn all the time.  Which is why the gentle methods of Miss Mason work so well for us.

I'm passionate about Australian children's literature, and that's why I started blogging - to encourage others who were looking to Australianise their homeschool by including some of our wonderful literary heritage in their school.

Of course, like most people my blog has taken on a bit of a life of its own since it began 18 months ago.  You'll find posts on many topics - MEP maths, the Reformed faith, Australian culture, books, our garden, and our adventures in such far-flung places as Yemen, Bhutan and Japan all get a look in on a pretty regular basis. Homeschooling gets a mention as well.

You'll also learn very quickly that I'm a bookaholic...

I started my community as a forum to broaden our discussions into other areas.  I love my blogging friends and I love hearing what you have to say.

So come and be my friend.  Tell me about yourself.  Why did you decide to join the Peaceful Community?  What do you want to talk about?  Where are you from?  I can't wait to learn a little about you.

Join a discussion or two.  Tell us what you're reading, or give us your opinion on comics or April Fools Day or camping.  Better still, start a discussion of your own.  What would you like to talk about?

lol.

Hi, I'm Ganeida &I began blogging because I'm a talkaholic.

I will happily pontificate upon almost any subject at all & I am happy to share my views with all & sundry.

I will read anything from jam jar lables to the Brothers Karimazov, bore you to tears with everything you never wanted to know about King Arthur & the Celts, & meander down some religious bunny trails just for variety.

I am an acquired taste but almost always interesting ~ or at the very least interested. ?

I'm Shayna, I write Life: Forward (http://LifeForward.onsugar.com) which is about women, the wage gender gap, and body image... and some snarky commentary on the ridiculous things fashion magazines print for fun :-)

I am new to this community and blogfrog, I am a single, working parent and we homeschool in New Zealand, we have just returned from a trip to the UK so we have had fun homeschooling on our travels.  I have 3 children, DS16, DD14 and DS5 so a varitey of ages.

I am originally from the UK but lived in NZ for over 20 years until I returned last year for a while, we are happy to be back in our beautiful country again.

I homeschool using a variety of things, my children has some learning disabilities and they don't retain things very well, so we read lots and lots and then lapbook about it, we use MEP math and try to follow Charlotte Mason for the reading, we lapbook because it is creative and I find it easier for them to retain it and they go over it again and again because  they are proud of it.

We currently live in the city but I am a country girl at heart, we make our home as country as we can and pretend we are not in the city lol.

I love photography and I have a blog for my photographs and one for our homeschool adventures, I love digital scrapbooking, reading, and anything crafty when time allows.

So there you have it a little about me.

Nicky

Pleased to meet you Nicky.  I've been over to visit you a few times now on your blog, but I feel that I know you much better now!!

I do hope you'll join in the conversation both here and over on A Peaceful Day.  I think we have quite a bit in common!!

How is MEP going for your kids?

Thank you for the welcome Jeanne,

MEP is going well for us, my 5 year old especially likes it and my daughter is not really a math fan so just gets on and does it.  Thanks for going by my blog, I am trying to update it more often but hard with a slow connection. Got to go to work now have a great night.
