Camping - yea or nay

Started by Jeanne , author of A peaceful day 3/16/2010 7:51:03 PM

We're off camping over the Easter break.  Yay! We love tenting it - the wilder the better, we say.

 What about you?

  • Join us in the wilderness?
  • Like roughing it a little but prefer access to a dunny and running water?
  • To you a luxury tented camp à la Four Seasons is more your style?
  •  Ugh!  Surely only swaggies and the indigent sleep outside by choice?
  • Love your Winebago?

Wadda ya reckon? Is camping your thing too? Are you jealous of us or just incredibly relieved that it's us, not you?

Do tell...

Hah, we'd be with you if possible.  Had I known the ease of camping with children earlier we would have been in tents right out of the womb.

The wilder the better.  My husband does all the cooking when we're camping (as well as making the coffee).  He does not do this at home unless it involves a fire outside.

Tenter.  Hiker. If I never saw civilization again I would be perfectly happy.

Oh not any more! My bones creak nowadays. Every tent I have ever known has a leak right above my face, and every airbed I have ever known manages to slowly deflate.

BUT I miss the campfires, the smell and taste of toast and a cuppa cooked over the fire, smoke permeating everything and hopefully keeping the mozzies away, screenless entertainments like little shows we put on to amuse ourselves (and the frogs!)

Oh, you poor old chook!!

Airbeds have come a long way since the bad old days - fortunately!!  Leaks, on the other hand, are just as clever now as they've always been...

Gotta love singing around a campfire though - and telling scary ghost stories with the torch shoved under your chin!

Less of the old, young Jeanne! Truthfully, today I do feel old. It is past time to wash our windows (ie one can't see out) and I am of course procrastinating instead.

Singing around a campfire, and singing around a piano, two huge pleasures.

Ooh, I hate camping - pests, no hot indoor showers, nowhere to plug my hairdryer in and an uncomfortable sleep.

No way, I like my creature comforts, and my idea of sleeping out is in a four (or five) star motel. :D

I'm definitely relieved that it's not me in a tent over Easter - I'll be praying for you *shakes head*

Blessings,
Jillian ?

Lol, this is very very funny.

I value your prayers, Jillian.  Nice weather would be nice...don't fancy the idea of a leak above my face!

Chuckle :)

We have been camping my whole life!  I love it.  LOVE it.  In fact we take a trip to Lake Powell every year and will be doing so again this June.  My favorite place to camp is near a lake...and Lake Powell is the best!  We totally tent it, wash in the lake, poop in the wildnerness, (a bit much on the sharing) the whole nine yards...it's great!

I have never camped.  I come from a family of girls and it wasn't on our female agenda growing up. However, I am about to embark on my first camping trip with my husband next week.  I have no idea what I am getting myself into, but I am looking forward to it.  He keeps telling me how much fun we will have and all the things we are going to do, and I have to admit I am excited.  Wish me luck and a waterproof tent.  Great outdoors here I come!!!

Camping in Japan?  Nah, we're more the ryokan in Japan type of family.  6 weeks 'til we're there.  Hurrah!!

The weather forcast for Easter weekend is starting to improve.  I must admit, camping in the rain doesn't appeal terribly much. :)
