Creation Facts of Life has been in print since 1980 by Master Books and is a good resource for any home or homeschool. The book is not one you will use with younger students, however a student in middle or high school can gain a great deal of knowledge from it's text.

I would also recommend the book to any homeschooling parent that wants to learn more about defending the truth of creation.

Pros: The author walks the reader through the facts from a point of view of someone that once believed in the theory of evolution and came to find that truth could only be explained through creation.

Cons: The ebook is all black and white (including its illustrations) and is somewhat technical at times in its explanations.

	Preview this wonderful free ebook

	This is a large download so you may want to preview before you download...If you are ready to download Creation Facts of Life, <a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="http://api.ning.com/files/2yBdQOpVoLHWCKO-cQ0CVHq4u77H*YulZJL88DEdmD-wBfCBHASMcTwyKwG-to-U*4DZmh7rP1OCW0mqh612jA2EBEeotjDY/CreationFactsfree.pdf" style="border-top-width: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0

I desperately need your help!

Looking for a Science text that will challenge and inspire your children to seek truth? A text that your children will want to read, even after the school day is over? Evolution: The Grand Experiment by Dr. Carl Werner is it. What first began as a personal investigation for truth surrounding the theory of evolution, eventually became a quest to educate and challenge others to ask the same tough questions. Dr. Werner and his wife Debbie spent over a decade traveling around the world in search for answers. Evolution: The Grand Experimentis a culmination of what they found.

As a Christian mother, an educator and homeschooler, I recommend this text for every family. Why? It will not only catch the eye and interest of your youngest children but it will challenge your older children to ask tough questions and demand the truth. This Science text will undoubtedly lead to many discussions within your entire family and inspire your children to think scientifically about evolution.

	Preview: See inside the book!

Dr. Werner presents each topic in a very clear, concise manner and the text is filled with beautiful photos and easy to understand illustrations and explanations. It will draw your children into their own quest for answers. In fact, the text is so inviting and the photos
so stunning, you may want to keep it on display in your home! To find out more, click each image below:

All of the previous 'Treasures from the Past' have been Language Arts books from the past. Today's treasure is different. It is The Arithmetic Primer and was published in 1901. The complete treasure is a free download of over 100 pages.

	Preview before you download

Here is how the author describes the book:
	The Plan of the Book
The Primer of Arithmetic is not made up mainly of graded miscellaneous problems. It is built on a plan. Each four-page group constitutes the larger unit of the plan. Twenty-seven presentations of this gradually changing unit make up the book. In the first eleven groups (44pages) the page units are as follows:

1st page – New number facts
2nd page – Number facts applied to linear measurements
3rd page – Number facts applied to surface measurements
4th page – The “Elementary Spiral” (a problem in each of the five fundamental processes), followed by miscellaneous problems
In the remainder of the book, the 1st and 4th pages of each group are similar to the corresponding pages of the first eleven groups. The 2nd page teaches the application of primary facts to the larger numbers. The 3rd page deals with solid, surface, linear, and capacity measurements.

Frank Hall published this treasure for students in the first two years of school. The book begins with a three chapter introduction. In the introduction, Hall gives detailed suggestions and explanations to teachers and parents on math education of children in these first two years. Personally, I love the suggestions that Hall gives on 'how' to incorporate math throughout daily life.

This post of Amy's prompted this question:

	What's your earliest memory?

Mine is of a large fire in the mountains east of Melbourne. We were caught in a traffic jam, and my big brave Daddy got out and walked toward the fireto see what was going on. I was sooooo worried about him.

Any traveller worth his backpack will have his own share of toilet tales to recount. These are the stories that are humiliating in the extreme at the time, but you dine out on them for years to come.

As a lemming, I have many, and I''ve recounted some here:

Well, we're home from Japan. It was a great trip, and we've thousands of photos. The question is this:

Now that we're back, what would you like me to blog about?

Which part of our trip intrests you most? Is it general stuff about Japan? Geisha? History? Tradition? Food? Funny stuff?

Is it the books and magazines we read and what we thought of them?

	Is it the church stuff?

Alternatively, would you rather that we skip the trip altogether and go back to blogging about usual stuff? This is your chance to have your say. Speak now or forever hold your peace!!

But hiding God's Word is not only and simply memorizing it. The Word should not only be part of your memory, it must also be part of your "affections," as John Gill explains. It is "preserved in his heart as a choice treasure, where it might dwell richly, and be of service to him on many occasions; and particularly be of the following use; that I might not sin against thee.." for the Word of God "is a most powerful antidote against sin, when it has a place in the heart."
Trisha's point, that we must make the memory verses we hide in our hearts part of our affections, is the challenge I face with my daughter daily. I can teach her memory verses and passages. I can help her remember, but how can I help her to love what she's learning?
How do I stop the teeth gritting and irritated sounds of frustration emanating from her young lips when we come to Scripture Memory on our timetable?
How do I help her to feel that the Scripture she has hidden in her heart is a 'choice treasure'?
Any ideas?

calling all Women, mothers, daughters, sister, aunts, roomates...

Come join me in a project I am dedicating to my daughters. There are lots of people in my community that I don't know. I do know some of you, but not many. That doesn't make us a community really, does it? I'd like to rectify that.
So, for those of you who don't know me, I'm Jeanne. I'm mummy to Jemimah. She's eight. Together with Jemimah's daddy, we live in a town of 1200 people in rural Australia. We're townies, but we love the wide open spaces of our sunburnt country and get outside as often as possible for a walk in the bush.
Jemimah is homeschooled using the Ambleside Online variety of a Charlotte Mason education. If that doesn't make sense then you'll learn all you need to know about these two on my blog, A Peaceful Day. Our home is a learning home, which means you'll see very little difference between a schoolday and a weekend - we learn all the time. Which is why the gentle methods of Miss Mason work so well for us.
I'm passionate about Australian children's literature, and that's why I started blogging - to encourage others who were looking to Australianise their homeschool by including some of our wonderful literary heritage in their school.
Of course, like most people my blog has taken on a bit of a life of its own since it began 18 months ago. You'll find posts on many topics - MEP maths, the Reformed faith, Australian culture, books, our garden, and our adventures in such far-flung places as Yemen, Bhutan and Japan all get a look in on a pretty regular basis. Homeschooling gets a mention as well.
You'll also learn very quickly that I'm a bookaholic...
I started my community as a forum to broaden our discussions into other areas. I love my blogging friends and I love hearing what you have to say.
So come and be my friend. Tell me about yourself. Why did you decide to join the Peaceful Community? What do you want to talk about? Where are you from? I can't wait to learn a little about you.
Join a discussion or two. Tell us what you're reading, or give us your opinion on comics or April Fools Day or camping. Better still, start a discussion of your own. What would you like to talk about?

Best homeschool blog

Everybody had a favourite blog - the one they visit every time they sit down at the computer.
I find myself most visiting those bloggers that follow and comment on mine. We're a family - a community. Most of these people I have come to regard as my friends, and I really care about them and their families.
There are heaps and heaps of good homeschooling blogs though. I know that I have barely touched the surface.
So do tell me, what is your favourite and why? Which blog do you visit and comment on most? Which is the best homeschool blog according to...ehem...you?

April Fools Day.

Been fooled yet?
I've always got pretty excited over April Fools Day. You? Anybody else planning on some dastardly tom-foolery today?
By the way, anyone know how I can short-sheet a sleeping bag? Hmmm need to think a bit more about this...

The perfect holiday read

So, in two days we'll be on Easter holidays. Two whole weeks of nothing to do. Except read and sleep and eat and enjoy the company of my wonderful family. Hurray!!
So what books to pack? What is the perfect holiday read? Do you go for stress-free airport pulp fiction; that literary classic that everybody else is reading (gotta be good if everyone says so); a pile of women's glossies; the latest homeschool tome; or that door stopper of a Russian classic that you never have time to read except during holidays?
None of the above? What's your perfect holiday read?

Camping - yea or nay

We're off camping over the Easter break. Yay! We love tenting it - the wilder the better, we say.
What about you?

Join us in the wilderness?
Like roughing it a little but prefer access to a dunny and running water?
To you a luxury tented camp à la Four Seasons is more your style?
Ugh! Surely only swaggies and the indigent sleep outside by choice?
Love your Winebago?
Wadda ya reckon? Is camping your thing too? Are you jealous of us or just incredibly relieved that it's us, not you?
Do tell...

What are you reading?

Hello. I am very frustrated because Blogger won't let my upload photos and I can't blog without them. So there. I am having a hissy fit.
And so I thought I would come over here and have a complain. I put it under a completely irrelevant heading so that not everyone would realise that I am grumpy. I don't think anybody much comes here anyhow, so I am safe. Relatively.
How are you? Are you reading anything? I really do want to know - if only to get my mind off Blogger for just a little while.
What do you think about this community? It doesn't seem to be working really, does it? Should I take it off and forget about it? What do you think?
Meh.
Bye.

Photo Contest

My son's picture that I submitted to Moonfrye's blog made it to the finals! I'm thinking Tintin and Asterix here. They're both cultural icons in France, and I'll admit to a fondness for both of them.
Any value? Wouldn't go near 'em with a barge pole?

We do. Blackberries, nettles, dandelions, mushrooms, wild fennel and prickly pears are amongst our favourites.
Learning how to identify and prepare edible wild foods is an important part of our daughter's education, but above all, foraging is fun.
What do you collect? Better still, what do you do with them? Anybody care to share some recipes?
I'll post my nettle soup recipe later, if anyone wants to give it a try!!

Do your friends and family read your blog?

Just curious, mind you. http://ohpeacefulday.blogspot.com/2010/02/what-would-you-have-chosen.html
What do you think? Are 17 year olds old enough to deal with adult themes of sex, drugs and alcohol?
When do you introduce these subjects to your children? Ever? Is it appropriate to shield them from the darker side of our fallen world, or does this cause problems later? What's your opinion? What's your experience?

Apparently in some browsers the posts are coming at the bottom of the sidebars. Hmmm Problem. It looks okay on my computers, but they're all using IE8.
Susan from Kerugma tells me that something in my sidebars is too wide and is pushing down the posts. But what? I haven't added anything new!
Is there someone who fixes this sort of problem?
I wonder whether you might be able to let me know here whether my blog formats correctly on your computer - and which browser etc you're using.
If anyone out there can fix this for me I would be forever in your debt!!

Bible Reading Plans

Do you use a daily Bible Reading Plan?
