Read below for a chance to enter to win a 5x7 carpet.

Once upon a time, I lived in an old old house.  A 1912 home that had NO carpet.

My son was little and all I could think about was how nice it would be to have nice carpet so he could crawl comfortably.......or a softer landing when he was learning to walk. The future brought me to a new home.  With brand spankin new lovely carpet.  We have carpet everywhere except in our kitchen, dining, and entry.  I love the cherry wood flooring, but I love my carpet even more. Until.........until a thousand of my son's friends would always take their shoes off on the carpet near the entry. Mud! That spot was easy to tackle. But when we added our Labradoodle to our family, the carpets suddenly saw better days.

Between potty training the pup and the muddy NW weather......our carpets were no match for a muddy long curly haired labradoodle in the winter months in Washington state. I bought a carpet shampooer which worked for about a year.........I wiped paws with shamWows, I would carry her inside and straight into the tub, I cried, I found myself disgusted over how stained my carpets were.

I would LOVE my hardwoods back now.  Or if I could have the carpet from CarpetOne with Resista, I'd be a happy happy girl. I had no idea this even existed. CarpetOne Resista carpet features outstanding stain and odor protection.  I could use both of those! Although my dog is odor free......I do have a teenage son and all his friends rolling around on the carpets too.

I'm curious to know, in your home, how do you balance your practical needs with your style wants?

You live your life on carpet. Make sure you have carpet that lets you live your life! For more information on Resista Carpet visit www.carpetone.com

I use hot water in a bucket with a cup of vinegar water. Using an old dish brush I scrub the carpet and use an old towel to blot up the water. That works but on stubborn stains I use barbasol shaving cream taking the brush to scrub in all directions. Use more vinegar water to Kinda rinse it out, blot it with an old towel and sprinkle on baking soda. When its dry you can vacuum it up. With 3 boys under 6 and two large dogs this is the best I can do. Another idea I am itching to try in my old office where a toddler got accrylic paint on the carpet is use ritz dye to dye it a dark tan instead of the white/multi color it is now. Carpet needs to be replaced in their anyways, what can it hurt?

We rent, and we have all pergo flooring. I wish we had SOME carpet, or a nice large rug. That would be so nice. I love laying on carpeted floors & my dog loves rolling around on carpet. *Sigh* that would be lovely.

I look for fabrics and materials that are both kid friendly (i.e. don't break, easily cleaned) and cute. Lots of bright fun colors for organization bins. And the few non-kid friendly things that I love, I put out of reach but still visible, like on some floating shelves or hanging on the wall.

We have hard wood floors and carpet. I leave a bunch of shoes in a boot tray on the porches. People usually get the hint that this is a shoe free house. When our dog comes in we use a thing called a Paw Plunger on him. And while my toddler was potty training we used plastic table cloths on the carpets he hung out on most often. I leave the rest up to fate -and keep a steam vac handy!

I love the softness of carpet below my feet especially with wee ones around. I figure I can have all hardwood when the kids are grown. The most important part to me is that my kids feel like it is home. it is hard at times, especially because I love to be surrounded by beauty all around me so I have to constantly remind myself of that.

I live in an apartment will wall to wall carpet except in the usual places: the kitchen and bathroom. I have two big dogs that track in the dirt but I have a couple of runners that can be thrown in the wash and an area rug to add a little style. That rug has seen much better days and I would love to replace it!

Practical usually wins because my kids are only little once and I don't want them to live in a museum. When they go to college I can have my showplace!

Such a fun topic! I am a total comfort gal so I have to have carpet! I do love my hardwoods in my kitchen and dinning and entry room! I think it's a good combo but you are right, carpet stains are hard. We try to help that out by having a no shoes in the house standard. It does help! Also getting carpets cleaned professionally once a year helps!

I put carpet in that I love a couple years ago. But I would love a home of all wood floors and rugs. I love rugs. Carpet is hard when you have kids and dogs -- especially teenagers running around :)
