How do I make my Daylight Basement a more comfortable place to be?

Started by kim , author of Todays Creative Blog 4/18/2011 9:46:02 AM

My Biggest Challenge

I have a Daylight basement.  It's a great space, one I haven't dedicated any time to.  I never use this space. I haven't decorated it, but I would LOVE to make it a FUN place to be to hang out watching movies & playing games. My son plays his play station and hangs with his friends, but I'd like to make more inviting for people who aren't 12. :)

Pros:

  • Full surround sound with all the bells & wistles. (tv, dvr, game systems, stereo)
  • Large entertainment center
  • full mini kitchen (fridge, microwave, sink, counter bar)
  • Space for game table
  • Large space for furniture
  • Great character

Challenges:

  • Hate my furniture - Dark blue leather
  • Hate the color of the paint- previous owners painted it a deep cranberry
  • It's COLD, especially with the leather funriture
  • it's a catch all = MESS

Stay tuned next month to read my Genius Tip on how I beat this challenge!

My challenge is painting my kitchen cabinets and fixing my stairs after removing the carpet from them.

My challenge is Tiny Living Room with a BIG Family. Or Tiny House BIG Family. The bedroom are ok, but the kitchen and living room are tiny!

I like Kenmore. So - my biggest challenge is my kitchen! It is over 20 years old - so it isn't adorable vintage - and it isn't new and up to date. The counters are 4 inch ceramic tile - with wood boards as the frame on the sides. So - no brushing crumbs off the edge for us - nope - everything, and I mean everything, gets stuck. The wall oven I have is so small that I can't fit a turkey in it. It is tiny - regular cookie sheets don't fit either. It's been a long time, and I would LOVE to be able to completely redo it.

Room-wise, my biggest challenge is my master bedroom/bathroom. It was completely wallpapered by the previous owners and it has cathedral ceilings. I want to rip the wall paper down and paint, but I will need to get up on a really high ladder to do so. Yikes.... freaks me out. So, I'm thinking I may have to hire it out but I REALLY don't want to! I liked Kenmore on Facebook!

Right now my biggest challenge is actually finding house within appropriate driving distance to my husband's job and my job...which happen to be in two opposite directions.  We have a large family and the optimal size is 5 bedrooms with at least 2500 sq feet, 2 car garage and a large backyard.

You would think it would be an easy but not in this area.

My biggest challenge is the kitchen which doubles as my husband's work space. Which is why the microwave is on top of the fridge, and I'm under 5' tall so it's real 'fun' for me! I liked Kenmore - and I'm sure our home's previous owners have too. When we moved in every appliance in the house was a Kenmore!

I like Kenmore :) My biggest challenge is all the PINK in this house! I swear the previous owners wanted to live in a cotton candy machine and we're having to fix that now. That and the 7 layers of wallpaper!
