Low Tax / Tax Free Back to School Shopping?

Started by TheMenuMom , author of The Menu Mom | Recipes | Menu Planing 7/28/2010 3:33:01 PM

Our state, for the first time, is doing a reduced tax back to school shopping week in August.  So they are taking 5% off tax for school supplies & clothes.  Does your state do this?

When I lived in FL they did it.  I'm in MI now.  Don't think they do it.  But my mom told me that Walmart was advertising for a tax free back to school shopping last year.  I didn't hear anything about it though.

I'm in FL.  We used to do a whole week, but this year it's just a weekend.  (It's August 13-15, for those who are here and interested.)

It is tax FREE, however, for qualified purchases (Books, clothing, footwear has to be under $50, and school supplies under $10.)

Georgia usually has one, but they cancelled it this year. :(

When we do have one, it exempts clothes, books, school supplies, and computers and accessories under $1500.  We try to take advantage of it when we can...but not this year, I guess.
