Do you use your child's real name on your blog and/or facebook?

Started by Chrissy , author of Simply Chrissy 5/14/2010 7:17:40 PM
I recently posted a reader poll on my blog after reading a Yahoo! News article via Consumer Reports that discussed what not to do on Facebook.  You can read it here.

One of the things said not to use a child's name in the caption of a picture on Facebook.

I've always used my children's names on facebook, and I've used their first names on my blog (our last names are never on there).

So what do you think?  Comment here or on my blog!  Thanks!

I use their names on my blog but I limit the amount of pictures I post. As for facebook, I don't have it linked to my blog, and it's set up at the highest level of privacy. I started facebook mainly as a way to get pix and video of my girls out to friends and family. I'm much more selective about what I'll post on my blog (in terms of photos, etc). I thought about not using their names or making names up, but then it just felt kind of forced (for me). I understand why people do it but it would create a kind of barrier in my writing.

I do use my kids' names on Facebook, but I have all of the privacy settings set so that only my friends can see my stuff and I don't play any of the apps so I don't have any 'friends' via those.

On my blog, I call my daughter "Baby Girl" and my son "Little Man".  It's natural for me to do that because those are our nicknames for the kids.  I limit pictures of the kids on the blog in general.

I have struggled with this! On FB, I only 'friend' people I really know (in real life) but on my blog, it's open to anyone, of course. I usually use their full names, but now I'm starting to reconsider (although it might be too late now???)

I use their names on FB on my personal page only, and I control the privacy settings so only my Friends/Family can see those photos. On my blog, I always take side shots and limit how much of my kids you can see, and I don't use their real names at all. But as my blog has grown and I've had some media exposure, it really wouldn't be hard for someone to figure out who they are.

I don't post many pictures of my kids on my blogs, and not usually direct views of their faces.  I don't use their names on my blog, only their initials. On facebook, I use their names, but it's not linked to my blog, and most of my facebook friends already know their names.

I don't use real names on my blog, but I do on Facebook. All of my pics can be seen only by friends.

On my blog, they are Mr. Lego and the Princess.

I use my kids names and pictures on my blog and on facebook BUT my "kids" aren't kids anymore.  My baby recently turned 20 (OMG I am old :))  That being said, I've seen many blogs where initials or blog names are used - Personally I think the initials are easier to use but the bloggy names are just so cute.

I think if your kids are young, you really need to be oh so careful these days ...... you just never ever know, and that is just such ashame.

I just wishwe didn't have to.
