Trundle Bed - practical?

Started by Karen , author of Sweet Brown Sugars 2/24/2010 9:42:19 PM
Hi everyone...I hope it's okay to ask this here.  My husband and I are discussing getting our girls (6 and 2 yrs) a trundle bed.  They have to share a room and since we will be giving up the crib soon we will need another bed.  I want a trundle because of the space saving but my husband isn't sure it's practical to use on an everyday basis.  I imagine most people buy them to use when guests come over.

Is there anyone that uses a trundle bed on a daily basis?  Any pros/cons?

Thanks a bunch!

I had a trundle bed growing up with my twin sister. It worked really great for us, except for pulling it out every night. They are so much lighter these days, but that was the only real negative. We usually took turns :D

I have a trundle bed, except I use the trundle part for storage. As Kristen said, it might be difficult to pull the trundle out every night. My trundle somewhat heavy. But it's definitely manageable. And if you get it make sure that the one in the bed doesn't accidently step on the one in the trundle if they get up in the middle of the night or in the morning.

I'm so happy to see this discussion here!  We are contemplating a trundle vs. bunk beds....I think we are leaning more towards the bunk, but the grandmother that is bankrolling the operation really wants a trundle.  I will definitely take the pulling in and out into consideration!

Karen, I bought a trundle for the same reason and now I wish I'd gotten a bunk bed. Our room is small (10.5x11.5) and when the trundle is out there is not much room to walk around it with the other stuff we have in the room. Also, there is no under the bed storage (like there is with a bunk). It is cute, but not super practical for us!
