Books We Recommend

Started by Sharon , author of Your Husband's Deepest Desire 6/27/2010 9:29:03 PM

To honor your commitment to the July Fourth Community Challenge I joined your community (you're at 759) and I'd like to ask you and your readers to recommend their favorite book - read last year.

I read a Nancy Moser novel called "The Seat Beside Me".   I was just watching Die Hard II for the one thousandth or more time - and, don't ask me why, the movie reminded me of the book.  The only similarity between the two is an airplane.

The book was utterly captivating, engaging and dramatic.  It begs the question "Is There a Hero In You?".  Nancy "finished the final edit of this book the Friday before 9/11. Though this book is not about terrorism, the heroics and challenges of the survivors are the same." (Nancy Moser)

Thanks Sharon for joining and for starting a discussion. I love to read!!

I am thinking back to the books I read last year and the ones that stood out to me. I really enjoyed Circle of Souls by Preetham Gandhi. It was his first book and was a suspense thriller. It was so captivating and had me on the edge of my seat. I read it so fast because I literally could not put it down.

I am interested in learning everyone elses favourite books.

Way back when, I loved the book "Something More" by Sarah Ban Breathnach. It seems like eons ago that I read it but I recall it had a huge impact.

I mostly read health & wellness related stuff - or technology stuff so I hesitate to recommend those to folks as an overall favorite type book.

I did also love "Godwinks" by Squire D. Rushnell and "The Still Small Voice" by Echo L. Bodine... oh and I LOVED "Emotional Awareness: Overcoming the Obstacles to Psychological Balance" by Dalai Lama and Paul Ekman Ph.D. (Paul Ekman is the dude that the series Lie to Me is based on... so it's a science meets religion/philosphy kind of read).

Well, okay, I'll take advantage of this July 4th challenge to promote the book I wrote :)

The Jeffrey Journey is based on notes I scribbled during the brief time we had with our third baby, diagnosed at 8 weeks with spinal muscular atrophy. SMA is a wicked progressive neuromuscular/motor neuron disease, and Jeffrey had a severe case of the deadliest form. He earned his wings at 5-1/2 months.

One of my favorite parts of the book is the special dedication, with one section honoring those living with SMA (they are amazing!!!) and another serving as a memorial.

The book originally came with a CD of lullabies my mother wrote for Jeffrey; it's no longer sold with the book, but is available :)
