do you use vinegar in your dishwasher

i have for years but recently it looked like rust came through my dishwasher and the maintence guy side it was rust at first and then he said it was vinegar.

i am just curious if this has happened to anyone else

No not in the dishwasher.  I've used it in the washing machine instead of softener when washing cloth nappies and never had a problem.  Not heard of using it in the dishwasher though.
