quilters

Started by trooppetrie , author of Troop Petrie 5/5/2010 7:33:49 PM
In January I could not thread a needle. Now I can thread a needle, sew a button, make skirts (basic), pillow case dresses and camera strap covers. I want to move on. I am thinking quilting sounds amazing and something you could never make too many of.  but honest other than buying a quilting peddle I know nothing. can anyone help or give me the basics

Well, everyone has to start somewhere! Sorry it's taken so long to reply but I've been busy working on my own little project over here. And over here too!   It's been a labour of love but we launched last week and I hope to be able to make it grow at least a little!

Firstly I'd say get a decent rotary cutter and cutting mat, and some simple templates. Squares will do to begin with. The rotary cutter will be much easier than cutting fabric with scissors plus you'll be able to cut several layers at once. Cut out your squares and place two right sides together, then sew them together with a ¼ inch seam allowance (the size of the edge of your presser foot on your machine). Sew a few together to make a row as long as you like, then press seams open.

Repeat to make several rows then pin them together making sure the seams align vertically then sew.

Once you're done let me know and I'll get on with telling you the next part!

Good luck!

Tania
