When a pregnancy announcement doesn't get a good reaction

This discussion is for this post here

What reactions have you received when you've announced your pregnancies? Have you always been met with tears of happiness or is there always one that will dampen the occasion?

Let's discuss it!

the latest one was - "you should watch more tele" which I admit actually cracks me up laughing - especially when I reply with "I can't help it if my dh finds me more interesting than the tv" lol

Lol Sarah! Oh yes, there's normally something about the TV in someone's comments. Usually along the lines or "Don't you have/don't you watch television?!".

And actually, no we don't watch it very much!

That's such a shame isn't it, Marla. Telling the children first is always a good way to let others know. They just can't keep it quiet lol!

I only have 2, and it was really hard to tell my Mom, my Mom. Especially the 2nd.

1st one, "you just got married, didn't you want to wait a while?"

2nd one, "You need to let your body heal"

Can you imagine if I decide I want 3?!? My family is already telling me 2 is enough, like it's their choice. It's not the response I would like to have, I was looking more for you know..... encouragement, happiness. At least we get that from my husbands side.

The funny part is, my Mom, she had 4.

NO CLUE what people are going to say/think when we announce plans for adoption!

I'm figuring some will wonder if we have a clue what we're getting ourselves into, some will question if it's a good idea, and others will have kind have seen the signs and seen it coming ;)

I think once all is said & done all of those that are close to us will be happy.  But the initial responses should be interesting ;)

Just laugh and smile.  We are expecting our fourth in four years and I get several comments.  We just smile and shrug.  We love life and the children God has blessed us with!

Drea, you have got to let us know what your Mom's response is to number three. Surely she can't come up with more!

A, good luck with the adoption! I hope you'll get lots of support.

Quirky Momma, I know the feeling exactly. We've had a run of six pregnancies (that we didn't miscarry) in the last seven years... all of them turned out to be boys too. Imagine, if this is another boy - six boys in seven years lol!  Anyway, we hear things like "Don't you think you've had enough now?" said to us quite sternly.  Makes me laugh when these people only see the children a handful of times a year!

i found out i was pragnant  with my last because i went to the dr for something else and they were going to give me pain meds and i asked for a test to be safe. when the lady called me a hour later to tell me i was pragnant i was giddy, she said thank you because no one is ever happy and this is the worse part of my job

Pam, I love your story! It's a shame the lady is used to negative responses at such wonderful news.  Your response is typical of how I'd have been!
