Stumbled upon your blog somehow. Then I read 8 posts in one setting. I'm going to have to add it to my list!
We have a low sugar policy, yet I have a child with severe food issues. She will not eat meats, fruits, veggies, or pastas. So getting creative and finding good replacements for sugars has been tough! I stick with it though. I will find a way to balance her food issues with healthy eating. Good thing she doesn't mind eating the same thing over and over! She lives on grilled cheese, yogurt, applesauce(the no-sugar added kind), and cereal (she loves bran and any boring healthy kind, LOL).
I haven't been that creative. I'm sure anything we have tried is something you have also already tried! My kids love to use fruit juice to make popsicles. We started this habit when my girls were younger and had big problems with red #40, and we've just stuck with the habit. They also love to make fruit smoothies. It is one of the only ways I can sneak fruits to my younger daughter. We just add yogurt, milk, and whatever fruit we like. We just got a Snoopy Snowcone maker. It will give the kids something different to do with all that frozen juice this summer, lol.
We decided to not do the Easter basket thing this year. I was surprised when my kids didn't even notice! They got a few pieces of candy at church, and they were happy with that. I think once you get the candy out of the house, they will get used to it and not ask for it as much. My girls are old enough to notice how crazy the sugar makes them, so they understand why I hesitate to give it to them. My 2yr old son doesn't understand, but as long as he doesn't see the candy he doesn't think to ask for it.
We are trying to phase out the jelly from the PB&J's. We use honey, but I would love to find another alternative to jelly. I love grape jelly! I hope you get some more responses to this post, because we could use some fresh ideas also!
