Do You Cook Breakfast?

Started by Amy @ Raising Arrows , author of Raising Arrows: Homeschooling with Purpose 1/4/2010 5:57:08 PM
Well, I have come to the place in my life where I am okay with admitting I DO NOT cook a hot breakfast unless I HAVE TO (which is rarely).  This does not bode well w/ my soon to be 12 yr old, but everyone else is good with it.  There's cereal, there's muffins, etc, but if ya want a hot breakfast, call Grandma!

So, who here fixes a hot breakfast every. single. day. (or close to it?)  Any thoughts you'd like to share?

I actually do make a hot breakfast every day. We have some kind of meat - sausauge, bacon, etc; eggs, and then some kind of bread (pancakes, breafast cakes, bisuits, french toast etc) and sometimes we throw fruit in as well.

I do keep cereal on hand for mornings that things come up or if "breakfast for dinner" is planned.

We usually do a snacky lunch, have "tea time" at 3:30 and then dinner around 6pm.

I have found that, for my kiddos, having a good hearty breakfast helps them get through the morning and school time.

We have a nice time at the breakfast table having devotions, reading together and talking.  I know it doesn't work for everyone, but I enjoy it. :)

I cook a hot breakfast more often than not ... but I do keep some cereal on hand for those lazy mornings too. Now that it's cooled down enough that I can bake without roasting us out (no a/c), I'm looking forward to making up a couple dozen muffins and freezing them (wrap them individually, then set them out the night before you want them. quick and easy breakfast!).

btw, Amy ... love your rules of posting for the community! Very cute.

I do agree everyone (including mama) would do better if there was a more substantial protein served for breakfast.  Once baby is here, I hope to be a little better prepared in that realm.

And Yama, I wondered how many people actually read the "rules"...lol

When it is hot, we normally have muffins/cold cereal/granola, etc.  But, when the weather gets cool, a warm breakfast is a must for us.  I have taught my 9 yo son to make malt-o-meal, oatmeal, and scrambled eggs.   So, one of us makes a warm breakfast nearly every morning.  All my kids, except the baby of course, can put bread in the toaster and then butter it or put honey/jelly on it.  We all help in the morning to get a warm breakfast on the table.  smiley  Now, I just have to find a healthy way to make a quick hot chocolate.  LOL!!

Blessings to all!

Well, I actually have a mothers helper right now, so I plan to harder breakfasts for the days she is here.  :) One of the days she is here she makes pancakes and we do scrambled egss and toast as well.  But, the other days we do things like cereal, bagels and yogurt, instant oatmeal or instant grits.  And like some of you, daddy does Saturday breakfast. :)

Ok I confess..I get up almost every morning and fix breakfast..truly the only reason I do this is because my kids are major athletes and I want them to have proper nutrition.  It's funny I ran across this discussion because they are getting old enough to start these habits on there own..I haven't told them yet but I won't be going off to college with them LOL

Blessings

Shari
