S.O.A.P for Week 1 of Ministry of Motherhood Book Club

Started by Jolanthe , author of Homeschool Creations 5/17/2011 7:19:42 AM

Hi ladies ~

Starting a discussion group here for us all to chime in on what we're learning during the S.O.A.P. study before we start reading the book Ministry of Motherhood. This will be a great week to get to know each other better and begin sharing what's on our hearts. :)

If you need the documents for this week, you can download them here: http://www.goodmorninggirls.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Ministry-Week-1.pdf

Be sure to watch the intro video from Courtney too: http://www.goodmorninggirls.org/2011/05/welcome-lets-get-started/

Feel free to chime in at any time this week about the S.O.A.P. readings that we are doing.

The S.O.A.P. Method stands for:

1.  S- Write out the scripture passage for the day.

2. O- Write down 1 or 2 observations from the passage.

3. A- Write down 1-2 applications from the passage.

4. P- Pray over what you learned from today’s passage.

Looking forward to hearing from you this week and in the weeks to come!

Jolanthe

thank you for starting this group. I just had the chance to print all my stuff so I look forward to posting this week what I am learning from these scriptures in our S.O.A.P. readings. I noticed our kids are similar ages and I know I can barely check email (some b/c I am busy and some b/c I forget lol) but I just found your blog and am grateful for the ideas and encouragement!

John 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."

This morning I was thinking about how a vine wraps its self around the branches as it climbs.

Picturing Jesus wrapping himself around us in our home today.

John 15:4-5

Found this in a study I read a while back.  I can't say it much better and I have continued to refer back to it.

"The key to fruitfulness is not effort; though effort will be necessary. The key to fruitfulness is not circumstance; though how we handle our circumstances is important. The key to fruitfulness is not our personal strength, charisma, or wisdom; though each of these will be given to us to help make us more fruitful. The key to fruitfulness is for us to have our lives joined to the one, true, healthy vine -- Jesus. As our lives are joined to his, as we "abide" in him and he in us, then fruitfulness happens naturally. As branches, we derive our health and productivity from the Vine. Want to live productively for God? Then let your life be joined to Jesus! Invite him in to abide in you as you draw close to abide in him.

Love that, Wendy!

Just printing and getting going! Books in the mail so i'll be a little behind, but still going to try and keep up!

Ok, cool story!  Yesterday I was so blessed by the verse we were reading (John 15:4-5)- it totally spoke to my heart in the midst of some things I have been dealing with.  Then, later in the morning my 5-year-old randomly said, "Mom, Jesus is the Vine and we are the branches, right?"

I was so stunned to hear that come out of his little mouth!  I don't remember the last time we talked about this scripture and it was as if the Lord was reminding me to share what I am reading with my kids.  Sure we do their own study, but they want to hear how I am being impacted by the Word and changed for God.  It was such an amazing "God Moment!"

So far all the verse have really touched me and reminded me of what is true and right- how my life should be.  It's all about priorities, starting my day with Him and filling it with Him- making Him my everything.  Seriously, if you guys knew what was going on in my life right now you would think these simple verses were amazing and just so relevant for me, right at this moment.  God is good and faithful and loves me.  He really, really loves me.  And moreover- He wants me to be close to Him.  Wow.

And Wendy- what a great quote!  Thanks for sharing!

What the last three days of scripture has reeterated my need to depend and seek God for my needs, let Him lead my path---my life. Then I will be the most sucessful, He will give my ALL that I need, and I don't have to do it all. I will fail without Him.

I'm also doing Priscilla Shirer "He speaks to me" as my morning devotional and Beth Moore's David study and funny they are all saying the same thing to me right now---with God and a willingness to let Him carry me guaranteed success through some crazy storms---and there will be storms. I guess I better start listening, better start letting Him do what He does

Duise ~

I'm doing a Priscilla Shirer study right now too and loving it! :) I am loving the passages that we've had so far this week.  Can't wait to share more with you all later. :)
