Camera Talk

Started by Faith , author of SIMPLICITY 1/29/2011 12:38:51 PM

Hey! I'm working on a post about cameras and wanted to get y'all opinion about cameras. What do you use? What do you want to upgrade to? I'll be listing cameras in the following categories:

Point and Shoot

Introductory SLR

Mid-Level  SLR

Pro SLR

Are there any other accessories you just can't live without?

I was just going to do a similar post!  I use a Mark II, and I also have an original 5d that I use for "play" - basically I don't want to kill my main gear at the beach, disneyland, etc...  I have a plethora of lens, but I can not live without my 50mm 1.2  -  i use it for everything, portraits, weddings, events, etc... I feel like it's so classic!

I have a Nikon D40.  I loved it and used it to learn the basics of photography.  Great entry level SLR.  I recently upgraded to a Nikon D90 which is more midlevel.  I love it, too.  My favorite lenses are my prime lenses.  I have a 35mm 1.8,  50mm 1.4, and an 85mm 1.8    I find them on my camera most always though when I go places that I need some zoom options I love my 18-200mm

I would be one of those rare people who use a point and shoot and have no desire to upgrade at the moment.

I use a Canon SX20 IS which is a high-end, point and shoot, super zoom camera.

Why no desire to upgrade to a DSLR?  First and foremost, it is the photographer who takes good photos, not the camera!  I am learning to push my P&S camera to the max and I'm loving it!

Second, I love the portability of my point and shoot.  Granted, my camera is large compared to normal P&S cameras but at least I'm not having to tote around lenses along with my camera.

Third, I am simply a mom with a camera.  I have no desire to be a professional or anything other than a mom with a camera so I do not feel like I need to spend a ton of money on cameras and equipment.  If I can push my P&S camera to the max and get the photos I want, why spend a ton of money?

It's my favorite digital, although I still prefer film over anything else - and I'd take a Leica anyday!  haha.

I use a Canon Rebel Xsi. I love it for now, since i've just started to understand manual. ( with Faith's e-class! Sooo helpful!) But I am already seeing that I will want to upgrade down the road. Soon... Not sure what I would like. Maybe this info will help me with that decision.

Good morning everyone. I have a Canon EOS 20d and a Canon Rebel XS, in the future I want to upgrade to a 7d or a the new 60d. I'm gettin a ef-s 10-22mm wide angle lens first. I also have a EF 70-200mm F/4 L IS, Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 VC, EF 85 1.8 and 50mm 1.8.

Oh yeah, accessories, hmm let me see, I love the Black Rapid straps, I always have a CPL with me and the Giottos Rocket Blower. Have a great day everyone.

I finally broke down today and finally now have the Nikon d3000 i can hardly wait to get started . I was looking at the Canon Rebel and Nikon both have great reviews so I decided for my first this would be  a great start it even has a guide on the Camera for helping to get those great shots also came with a book for taking pictures using any D-SLR.. I am super excited....

Hi Faith, I am a new dSLR owner and I received a Canon T2i for Christmas. However I switched to a Nikon D90 within my 30 days return policy due to reviews on image quality. I am really loving this camera and having a lot of fun with it so far. I am not looking into a new camera at least not for the next few years but am interested to read what lenses people like most. I currently only have the Nikon 50 mm 1.8. Which I love. But have been looking at the 35 mm 1.8, the 85 mm 1.8 and the 24-70mm 2.8 lenses. Probably would love to own all three someday. :) Any input on lens preferences would be appreciated.

Thanks for starting this it has been interesting to read what everyone has written so far.
