With so many awesome "educational" (or so I tell myself) games available on the computer and in the form of phone apps, how do you monitor access to it all for your kids?

Although it may not be entirely true, I find that I tell myself that these options are "better" than a video when I need to get stuff done, but the habit is creating little tech monsters in our home!

I was excited to recently discover Zoodles.com as a way of limiting the time, violence, and control content for my kids. It's free, and has been a lifesaver... like a way of kid-proofing my computers, phones, and tablet!

Here's a link to my full review of Zoodles, with a chance to win a free month of Premium Service - Enter by 6/15, 1 pm PST! http://mamaneedsmaintenance.com/?p=333

What do you do in your household keep computer/phone playtime under control?

I find myself saying, "Kids don't respect adults these days like we did" all the time, but also acknowledge that I don't want to raise my kids the same authoritative way I was raised... We put a lot of work into emotion coaching in our house, yet it still feels frustrating when our little people can't seem to grasp the most basic of manners (thank you, don't interrupt, etc...). I hate feeling like a nag or disapproving, but think it is definitely my role to teach these behaviors.

What tips/books do you have on how to approach this topic?

I love this simple book, which I recently reviewed:

If you’re anything like me, you’re pushing the “Santa’s watching!!” line pretty hard these days. I know it’s not right to market Father Christmas as an Eye-In-The-Sky Tattler who punishes by withholding My Little Ponies and Cars, but the kids do seem to care about what he thinks, and it’s mighty hard to not exploit that when they don’t seem to care about what I think most of the time. Yes, Santa is special.

This is why I think everybody needs to create a personalized message from Santa through the Portable North Pole. I tried this site for the first time last year and the kids went bananas – it was fun for all!

Click here and follow the simple, step-by-step screen prompts to enter information about your child or loved one. In addition to biographical info about your child, you can upload pictures, reference special events that happened in the past year, mention areas of his/her improvement, and even make mention of that oh-so-special toy that your little one hopes to see Christmas morning!

PNP does a fabulous job of seamlessly editing the information together into a special message from Santa that appears so genuine that it will have you wanting to write a letter to the big guy up North, as well!

After you’re done building your message, create a login and you’ll also have access to the “Live from the Village” PNP page that is packed with more North Pole fun and includes “News of the Day”, fun facts and tips, and even a weekly video from Santa in which he answers a secret of the week like, “Does Santa really eat all the cookies kids leave for him?”

PNP isn’t just for kids, either. They have special message templates for toddlers, children, AND adults. So go ahead, help somebody believe this holiday season.

	Here’s a sample message that I created:

With a 6 extra family members staying with us over the Holidays, I'm beginning to brainstorm on ideas for projects and activities to keep us from going crazy this holiday season. Since my sister has a 9 month old that is relegated to naps, we'll be home quite a bit.

I have a 3.5 and 5 year old - any suggestions you might have to keep the kids busy or the adults involved/interacting would be great! Thanks!! :)

My 3yo son is going though the question phase and doing a fine job of it!

By the end of each day my head is spinning from answering question after question.

"Mommy, why does that man wear a necklace? What does the word "like" mean? Mommy, why do people help people? When can I have coffee?"

Do you hold big birthday parties for your children or do you have small ones? Are birthdays important in your family?

We don't celebrate my birthday or my husbands. Sometimes we will go out to dinner to celebrate them but that is about it. His birthday is the day after mine so we usually celebrate them together.

Our childrens' birthday parties are generally small. We usually only invite family and maybe one or two close friends.

 How do you celebrate birthdays?

you let them stay home by themselves for the first time? Were they home by themselves or were they watching a younger sibling? If they were, how old was the younger sibling?

What about staying in a car while you ran into a store (like to pick up a pizza) where you could see them through a window of the store? What about a gas station? Grocery or convenience store?
Just curious after a conversation I had with my sister-in-law tonight.

In this post I talked about a neat charm bracelet that some parents gave their daughter and she was able to give the whole thing to her husband because he was her "one & only" for all her "firsts".

I was recently visiting some blogs when I came across some comments that other bloggers had left asking for that person to come visit them.

That's all they said...no "cute pic" or "nice post"...just simply "please join me over at blah blah blah".

Now, I'm all about self promotion and getting your name out there, but leaving a comment that simply says "come visit me" just seems a bit to rude.

I personally don't have a problem with someone commenting about the post or pictures and then saying something like "If you have time stop by". But the other...not so much!

	So.....what do you think?

Is it rude to leave a comment only saying "Please stop by my blog." or do you think that's an acceptable way of self promotion?

For me, childhood was wonderful. In fact I feel like I still see most things with the joy of a child especially since becoming a mother.

After my Nanny gave us her autobiography, I was so touched to learn particularly about her growing up years. She inspired me to start a new blog called MommysPiggyTALES.com.

The idea is for moms to link up once a week for 15 weeks starting June 10 and start recording stories of their youth starting with the day they were born and ending with a post high school post. Vlogging is okay too.

I think a few recorded childhood memories of you would be a priceless gift to your children and others. What about grandma? Do you know what growing up was like for her? You should interview her. My Nanny had a pet goat.

Thanks ladies! I hope you'll consider it! What is one of your favorite stories to retell from childhood? Family vacations are at the top of my list.

In THIS POST I ask the question: Would you allow your child to eat 6 dozen cookies in one sitting?

I want to know what you think about sugar and your kids. What are your thoughts on your child's sugar consumption?

	Talk to me!

I have never been to PANERA BREAD before!

I am going to meet a friend for lunch there in the near future and want to know what YOU suggest I order to eat!

So the other day I linked a post to a blog hop (meme, fest...whatever!) and I went through the list (a long one!) and commented on probably 20+ post entered by other bloggers.

I think I have gotten 2 (tops!) comments back from that. That's a little frustrating when people don't have the courtesy to comment back.

	Nothing.

How do you feel about that?

And what's your "policy" for communicating with those who leave a comment on your blog?

I will be posting on Sunday (5/23/10) about fear and a little about my struggle.

I am wondering if I'm alone or if more of you out here struggle with being afraid of things...and I mean more than just the "normal" fears of snakes, mice, bugs...etc...

If you do struggle with on going fear - being alone, sickness, danger, etc... - what do you do to battle it?

I've been working hard to grow my community here at Blog Frog. I've been actively involved in other communities, as well as starting new discussions. Whenever I start a new post, I post it in multiple communities, and have seen my number of community members grow.
My dilemma is this: How do I get people to come to MY community to get things rolling?
I post the same questions in mine as I post elsewhere.
Do any of you involved Blog Froggers mind also posting your discussions in other communities...like mine perhaps? :)
I just added a couple new discussions to my community, that I haven't posted elsewhere. I would truly appreciate it if you guys wouldn't mind hopping over and getting things started! THANKS!
