Sibling Rivalry?

Started by MrsM , author of I've Changed My Name To Mommy 9/4/2009 1:02:51 PM
My sister and I are Irish twins (we are 1 year and 4 days apart) and we fought like cats and dogs when we were little-we're talking knock down, drag out, cat scratching, hideous shrieking fights.  We get along pretty well as adults, but it was BAD as kids.

I always just assumed that it was because we were so close in age, so we decided to spread our kids out more.  Monkey is nearly 4 years older than Baby Bug and they get along swimmingly!  They play and laugh and have a great time.  Of course, when I got pregnant so fast after we had Baby Bug, I was really worried about her and The Bean, since they are just under 15 months apart, but they seem to be getting along great as well.  And of course Monkey is gaga over the baby.

My question is, do you think I have something to worry about in the future?  How do I help the girls not scratch eachother's eyes out...if they feel so inclined?

I am afraid I don't have any advice as far as the age gap...but I was pulled in by the term 'Irish twins'.  My sister and I are 11 months apart.  My first two children are 10 1/2 months apart and the second and third are 13 months apart.  While they do fight, they also play well together.  We do have a 4 year old as well and all of them love on her but the 'baby' is now at a point where she thinks the world revolves around her and the older kids get very annoyed with her.  Praise them now for how they interact with one another and just keep trying to encourage that in them.
