Cash or Credit?

Since becoming debt free 3 years ago we stopped using credit cards completely. I don't even think I have one anymore. I use debit cards or cash and have never had a problem.
Anyone else live a credit card free life?

Congratulations on working to be debt free! We are currently mired in credit debt and working our way out using Dave Ramsey's book as our guide.

We also use just a debit card or cash.

We have not used a credit card in over two years.  We are still working our way out of debt, but take great encouragement knowing we have not added to our debt, even through a job loss!  I usually use cash for everything, but we have not done our budget this month (terrible, I know!) so I've been using my debit card.  I'm definitely one of those people that spends more when it is not cash leaving my envelopes. :)

I'm a cash person, but I resisted it for months.  I finally caved after taking Dave Ramsey's FPU.  I was over budget on groceries for 9 months before that.  I stayed within budget on cash for 9 months after that and I did not change the budgetted amount!  And I only messed up that 10th month because it was December and I miscalculated my Christmas food needs.

I now use cash for groceries, blow money, dining out, and paying a babysitter.  I write checks to daycare and church because I'm physically there all of the time anyway.  I still use plastic at the gas station because I refuse to haul the kids inside with me to pay!

Besides controlling my spending, I love how using cash simplifies the administrative time associated with budgeting and managing our money.  I do a withdrawal on payday and then I have just that one entry in my budgeting software (used to be Quicken, now YNAB) instead of having to enter and categorize data from a pile of receipts!

I prefer to use debit card.  I tend to keep better track of my spending using a debit card because I do all my banking and billpay online and all the transactions are recorded automatically.

Well we were debt free for a while but life has some ups and downs!  I try to use mostly cash and debit cards.  It helps me be more disciplined.

We are cash, but have a credit card for major purchases.  We pay it off before the month is up but like the protections that a credit card offers.  We also have a mortgage... I'm looking forward to being completely debt-free!

We are just now working on getting out of debt. We have been using debit cards for all purchases but are finding its the little things that are adding up big time!

We are going to be chaning over to cash/gift cards from now on. (Im sure gift cards sound funny, but we feel it will help Us)

We are debit card users but are going to convert to using cash.  I have struggled with converting to cash because USAA gives us a rebate every month for using our debit card.   However, I am sure we will save much more than the 7-10 dollars we recieve as a rebate every month:)  I am a little nervous about carrying around large amounts of money for grocery shopping and was wondering if that bothers anyone else or is it just me?

I love my credit card!  We are debt-free and pay off our credit card each month.  I love earning the points and "purchasing" gift cards with our points each month.  I also use a debit card for many purchases around town.  We have used credit cards in the past to earn points for travel.  We went to Hawaii 2 yrs ago and used American Express to get two of our flights free.  I had to keep very careful track of everything and cancel before they started charging us for membership.  It's not easy to cancel.  They wouldn't let me cancel my husband's card so it took a while to coordinate his being home and getting it done.  Oh- and we didn't take enough cash with us (who knew?) so it was wonderful getting a cash advance while we were there- it really rescued us.

I do believe in the cash system and think we would probably spend a little less money each month if we used it exclusively, but since we are debt-free already this is not so much an issue.  I do recommend it for those who are trying to get debt-free.

We've not used our credit cards much at all. Recently I saved up money for a night's stay in a hotel. I've been using cash for groceries and smaller purchases. I don't carry alot of money with me, just enough to get want I need. I does feel good.  Mary Hunt, at Debt Proof living is great with help. She got out of debt and has helped many people, including me!! It's never too late to start freeing yourself from debt!! I want to be debt free by or before we retire in some years down the road.
