Does anyone cross stitch?

Started by Amy , author of Simply Sugar & Gluten-Free 11/11/2009 10:47:13 PM
I wanted to cross stitch a thing for my husband with the saying -

"Expect A Miracle"

I've seen it hanging places and it was a stamped cross stictch.  Any ideas?  I've searched on-line, been to all the local stores - no luck. I can work off of a book and do counted cross stitch, too.

Thought someone here might be able to help.

Umm, maybe some shops on Etsy or somewhere?
Trying to think of where I've gotten more unique ones...

Oh, or if you find the letters you'd like to use, maybe make your own design?
You can get patterns for different fonts, and fins some small scrolls or images to embellish with?

Do you know anyone who could teach you how to cross stitch? I learned many years ago. It really isn't that difficult, just time consuming.

There are books out there with patterns you can use, that is what I did.

Are you looking for a specific design?  If not I would definitely just make your own design and go from there.  Find a font you like and transfer it onto your material.

It's been forever since I've cross stitched--forgot how fun it was!

Jodi, If I were you, I would go to your local library and check out a book with different Cross stitch alphabet designs and borders. I would also check out a book on basic cross stitching. It is really very simple and if you use a larger weave fabric you can easily design your own.

You can probably just browse the internet for Free cross stitch alphabets and then download them. The one suggestion I would make is that when you start stitching, be sure to use the same stitch pattern, meaning go one direction for the first stitch and then the second stitch in the opposite direction,  Do it the same each time.  sort of like this

///// first then go back and do the cross stitch \\\\\\next  Do the same process each time. This will make your stitches look very neat and professional or like you know what your doing. Don't do this / \ \ / do this/ \ / \ / \  not / \ \ / \ / / \ / \ \ /
