Do you use the 3 second rule with your kids?

Maybe you are not familiar with this. I'll explain. When I was a kid if food dropped on the floor we would eat it as long as it wasn't there longer than three seconds. Most people automatically throw the food in the trash if it falls on the floor. What do you do? Do you let your kids eat food off the floor or do you throw it away?

We have a limited budget and as my family continues to grow and grocery store prices go up it is getting harder and harder to put food on the table. So if one of my kids drops food on the floor and then eats it I don't say anything. I just let it happen.  Although, if I find food on the floor then I throw it away. What do you do?

My kids are constantly dropping food and untensils!  If it is a dry food, like a chip or cracker, I usually let it slide, or maybe attempt a quick brush off.  My husband says there is scientific evidence to back up the 30-second rule, and I hate wasting food.  If it is a piece of meat or fruit, I wash it off or have them wash it off before eating it.

If we had a pet, I suppose he or she would save us the trouble.  But in any case, I rarely throw food away.  We cannot afford the waste.
