Seventh Generation: Live Like the Lorax

Started by The Happy Housewife , author of The Happy Housewife 3/6/2012 8:30:10 AM

I recently received some Seventh Generation laundry products to try in my home.

Now you all know I am picky about detergent. My HE machine and I haven't always gotten along and I've searched to find a detergent that cleans my clothes and doesn't leave them smelling bad.

I decided to try out the Seventh Generation detergent with some very dirty, stinky, shoes that my son wore into the creek. To my surprise they came out of the washer clean and didn't smell like Florida lake water!

I then tried a slip cover from my chair and washed it on the delicate setting. It also came out clean. I was thrilled that the Seventh Generation detergent was able to handle the tough super dirty boy stains and delicates like a slip cover.

Need some laundry inspiration? Here's a pinboard for you.

This month I'm partnering with Seventh Generation and The Lorax to help raise ecological awareness for adults and children. As the Lorax says,

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."

Every single person can make small changes in their life that help sustain the environment. You don't have to drive an electric car or cook in a solar oven to help the environment. (Although those things work too)

Here are a few facts about Seventh Generation detergent.

  • Biodegradable formula
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Free of optical brighteners, dyes, perfumes and synthetic fragrances
  • Non-toxic
  • Designed for standard and high-efficiency (HE) machines
  • USDA Certified Biobased Product (96%)

Seventh Generation and Dr. Seuss' The Lorax have joined forces to inspire families to conserve the earth's resources with conscious consumption.

If every U.S. household replaced just one bottle of 50 oz. 4X concentrate petroleum-based laundry liquid with Seventh Generation's 50 oz. 4X concentrate plant-derived product, we could save enough oil to heat and cool 15,700 U.S. homes for a year.

Make a difference by choosing high-quality and effective products from Seventh Generation, now offering free shipping for any purchase over $50!

How do you live like the Lorax? Tell Seventh Generation below and be entered to win a Green Your Home prize pack!

We use glass when we can. Cloth instead of paper (except bathroom tissue). We turn off lights when we're not in the room or during the day. For many of my cleaning needs, I use either vinegar or Baking Soda. We shop second hand stores when we can. It's not as much the cost, it's because many of the clothes are perfectly good clothes, especially when dealing with a toddler that is in a new wardrobe every 6 months.

We use cloth napkins, and very little paper cleaning product in our home. We recycle, and try to be very aware of what we are throwing out so we can cut back on that. We have switched to mostly locally grown organic food, so we are not encouraging junk to be put in our soils.

Lots of reusable. Cloth wipes, cloth diapers, cloth towels in the kitchen, cloth floor rags (reused from the bottom of sweat socks that have developed holes)

I do my cleaning with vinegar so I am not spraying chemicals all over :)

I actually love the seventh generation all purpose cleaner--I feel like it's safer for my family and like the smell!

In our home we switched to cloth napkins and cloth cleaning towels. We love Seventh Generation cleaning products, especially the detergent and the bathroom cleaner. We use reusable bags at the grocery store and recycle as much as our township will allow. We line dry in the summer and spring. I started shutting off the water in the shower when I shampoo and soap up. It hasn't caught on to the rest of my household, but I'm still trying :)

Telling all my friends about our need to care for our earth, training my kids to do so, by using Seventh Generation products :), by washing clothes only in cold water, running all our errands on one day, getting almost ALL our food (produce, milk, eggs, meats, dry goods) from a local co-op, and so much more i need to be doing!!

I'm attempting to grow our own veggies this year as well as little things like washing clothes in cold, unplugging things whenever possible and using safe cleaning products.

I make almost all of my own non-toxic cleaners to clean my home and I use natural products on my baby girl. Healthy for us and for her!
