Do you like to go to Flea Markets?

Started by The Style Sisters , author of Style Sisters 8/21/2010 7:18:46 PM

How many of you go to Flea Markets? Where do you go? What do you hope to find?

I love Flea Markets! There is so much to choose from and such creative people are out there with their wares. My mom and I are hoping to start our own Flea Market soon. So please share your thoughts with what you like to see while out a Flea Market.

Oh, I love to, all my vintage keys are from there. I like to go with my kids there, show them different things, that we don't use them at our household any more. It's like an open air museum.

Love, love flea markets! I'm lucky that I live fairly close to a massive one. Acres and acres worth. My little heart is at peace when I'm at a flea market.

No, but it's because I don't like to haggle!

I got the best deal at Brimfield a month ago.  Brimfield is this gigantic multi-day flea market outside of Boston held 2 or 3x per year.  I've been only 3 times total.

My score:  a 1950's croc purse for $15.  Turns out to be worth about $3000 alone for materials!  And it's super cute; a trapezoid shape.  Very similar to current "Ladylike" purses by Celine and other designers.

I used to love going to flea markets, I haven't gone in years. I do a lot of shopping online now, but it isn't the same. Thanks for bringing this post up, I should go again soon.

I love to go to flea markets too, mainly for the fresh produce and browsing through a lot of neat items.  We have a couple here in town that are good, but there are larger flea markets out of town that I wish I had more time to visit.  Thanks for asking.

love flea markets, antique fairs, yard sales and all that jazz.

when flea markets turn into places for people to sell socks and sunglasses though, i'm out.

we had a blast on the world's longest yard sale and Brimfield is amazing.

i'd check out the most popular flea markets in L.A., N.Y., London, etc...they always seem to have the coolest things.

i wish you'd come to florida to start your flea market!

Yes, I love flea markets - but I haven't been to one in a while.  I'm pretty sure that there are two within reasonable driving distance from my house.  I frequent the dollar stores and my local salvation army!  Right now, I'm looking for copper to decorate for Halloween!

I love flea markets. I have one less than 10 miles from my home so I go quite a bit. I also go to thrift shops/antique shops and I always have good luck there.

You have to wade through a lot of stuff at fleas but if you know what you're looking for and get to know the regular sellers, you can go through quickly and spot the good stuff. I found vintage fireking jadeite for a dollar each last time. I look for a lot of vintage items. Some are quirky but cool.

Sellers expect haggling but 9 times out of 10, they come up to you and make an offer because so much is not marked. So if anyone is hesitant to haggle, don't worry.

I've written many posts on flea marketing/antiquing/thrifting. One is on some haggling tips - condensed. If you're interested, feel free to stop on by!

Thanks!

I use to go to flea markets close by quite regularly but then the merchants started charging as much or more than the retail stores so my views changed.  I live in Florida and I guess they were pricing towards the tourists.  I go to the farmer markets now for fresh vegetables and enjoy the bargains and experience there.
