Why rice milk over soy milk?

Started by Ali 9/17/2009 7:39:59 AM
I've noticed how Cjane goes out to get rice milk.  I've been buying soy milk for over a year now, but have heard that it can mess with estrogen, etc.  So, is rice milk better?  Help!  I need to make a milk run today!

Thanks!
Ali

I think rice milk tastes better. So does almond milk. I can't get used to the taste of soy milk.

I used to drink rice milk in my vegetarian days and I think it tastes the most like "regular" milk. Especially when cold. Or as ice cream. Yummmmmmm.

Great question. The Milk Debate!

We do rice milk in The Chief's bottle because he likes it. Soy milk makes him cough. I don't know why but that is the truth.

We also buy soy milk for cereal eating. I wish this response was more scientific, but as it turns out, it's just about prefrences.

ladies, you might check this out: chetday.com/soymilk.htm.  we went back and forth over the soy/rice decision many times, and have gone back to whole, local, organic milk that is pasteurized at ultra-low temps b/c where i live it is illegal to sell raw milk.  when i have a goat of my own, i'll milk it and drink the milk raw.  that said, this website answers a few of the questions i've seen posted if you must or choose to refrain from milk.

Food for thought:  is it milk if it doesn't come from a mammal?

For what it's worth, we drink raw milk bought from a local farm whose cows we watch graze every day.  It's delicious!

I have always wondered why its only us humans who see the need to have milk past infancy. Its kind of weird, don't get me wrong dairy is soooo good but weird nonetheless.
Cow's milk is made to fatten a calf up to like what 300 lbs in months?
That is why I am slowly but surely trying to use more rice/soy "milk"  -- so no its not milk but its good on granola in the morning

that and my husband's high cholesterol

I like rice milk better, but I think I am bit allergic to soy anyway. So, that's my 2 cents.

cjane, maybe someone has already mentioned this, but your son's coughing after drinking soy milk might mean that he has a slight allergy to soy...
