St. Patty's Day Traditions

Started by Evonne , author of The Ballard Bunch 3/15/2010 12:15:11 PM

Now that my kids are a little older (ages 2-5), I want to start playing some leprechaun tricks.  :)

Last year we tried the green food dye in the milk and not one of my kids would drink it after.  Poor dad was stuck with the whole gallon.

Any other fun ideas to bring the silly spirit of the holiday to our home?

I just saw this idea on the Family Fun website.  Its a cute leprachaun treasure hunt.  I don't know if I'll do it though because I'm not real big on giving gifts for EVERY holiday.  Its a cute idea though.  Maybe just a candy bar at the end of the treasure hunt.

Another idea I've done are the rainbow cupcakes.  Have fun.  I'll keep checking back for other ideas.

(And thanks for your comment on the laundry thread.)

I am doing the rainbow cupcakes mentioned by Karin.  I also found these cute printables.

Let us know what you did and how things went!

Karin & Tara I love those!

Might just steal the idea.

Crafty ladies...

I just saw this post on a blog I frequent and thought the ideas she had with her kids were too cute! Very crafty, and I am not crafty in the least, but so cute!

we never "celebrated" st. patrick's day in our family other than the usual wearing of the green; we wore school uniforms and i think they let us wear our everyday clothes that day, if it had green in it.  now my kids are in Catholic school so it's the same for them, tomorow.  they'll wear something green.  but i don't do any of those cute things; it just doesn't occur to me.  i didn't have them growing up (cute leprechaun tricks or any kind of present or what not) so no, I don't do a darned thing about it here.   i feel like a bit of a mom failure at times. i am not a kitchen mom or a craft mom.  i feel like i spend a lot of time preoccupied with thoughts of my eventual career, like when i finally do 'make something big' .... but no. i do TALK well with my kids.  i can relate well.  that has to count for something.

i write the blog, but they aren't featured players in it normally.  i've encouraged them to do blogs of their own and of the three, only one has actaully worked on it.  she's waiting for me to patch in her photos and she's good to go.  i'm very proud of her!

Wearing greeeeeeeeeen!

My kids are still a little young to understand St. Patrick's Day (3 & 5), but we started the day with green French toast! (Just added green dye to the batter). We then went on a "treasure hunt" left by the leprechaun's green footprints that we scattered throughout the house and the kids gather the chocolate gold coins that were left on floor.

They thought it was fun, so I think we'll start doing something to that same effect every year! :-)
