What do you love about where you live?

Started by Heather , author of Family Volley 1/13/2010 11:46:27 PM
I grew up in Southern California. So sunny, so wonderful. I came to Utah to go to school, met my husband, and we have been here ever since.

For New Years we went back to CA to visit my old stomping grounds. It was perfect as usual. Now we are home. It is cold, my kids want to be outside. I want to be outside. My husband and I have spent the last week and a half trying to figure out how we can move. Quick.

Given that we are not moving quick, and that I need to have a slight attitude adjustment I decided to sit down today and write down all the things I love about where I live.

The mountains are beautiful
Skiing is 25 minutes away
There are seasons here. Spring and Fall are heaven
We live in a very safe place
We have family close by
My husband and I have jobs that support our family
Great Schools for our children
Low cost of living
Our home
Our neighborhood

Negative things came to mind first but I got over that. It reminded me that my troubles are of little consequence and I am very, very blessed. I live in a wonderful place.

So where do you live?  I would love to know what you love about where you live. Do share.

I live in Arizona.  I love the weather.  I don't even mind the heat too much.  Mainly because I can't stand to be cold.  I also love the view of the mountains from my home, and the farmland surrounding us.  It's beautiful.

I love getting to use my vintage coat collection in December, January and February. I feel so sassy in retro faux camel fur.

I love seasons (fall is my new favorite time of year!) I love the idea of snow. I love that in the summer time the sun stays out for 20 hours. I love that there is a mama moose and two babies that practically live outside my front door. I love that we haven't really been hit by the bad economy at all here (and I don't say that bragging, it's just nice to know that there are jobs to be had... I can't imagine how scary that is for other people to be going through). I love that life moves slower and I can get from one side of town to the other in 15 minutes. I love that no matter which way I go, there is wilderness to explore. I love that there are amazing and well maintained hiking and biking trails everywhere.

Most of all: I love that I haven't been eaten by a bear yet... It happens!

I live in a very small town in Pennsylvania! I love small town living. Everyone knows each other. The crime rate is very low and my kids get to go to a relativly small school. Although it is cold in the winter, I don't mind too much because winter is preceded by the most gorgeous autumn and followed by an equally gorgeous spring! During the summer, we picnic at the most beautiful state parks that surround us.

I just can't imagine ever living anywhere else!

I live just outside of Washington D.C in Northern Viriginia.  My house sits on the site where the second Battle of the Civil War took place...The Battle of Ball's Bluff.  Everything around me is historical and I love all of that history.  I love living so close to downtown and being able to see all the monuments and Smithsonian Museums.  (which are all FREE if you didn't know).  I love the fact that the seasons change here and we do get a little bit of snow for a white Christmas, but most of the winter the temperatures are in the 50's.  We live about two hours from the Shenandoah Mountains which are BEAUTIFUL and can provide a nice day of hiking.  We also live about three hours from the beach which can provide a nice day of swimming in the ocean.  I don't think we will live here forever, but I love it for now.

@ Sandy -- I lived in Edinboro PA for a while during college and grew up just across the border in Ohio.

I'm presently living in Edmonton, AB, Canada, but was raised in British Columbia.  I was very homesick for the first couple of years because I miss the mountains, trees, and the lakes.  The scenery was beautiful.  Now I'm living in a larger city with a less than desireable scenery, but the opportunities are worth it.  I have so many more resources available to me here in the city than I ever would have had I stayed in BC.

I love the scenery here in the DC suburbs (I'm north of the city in Maryland). Like Eva, I love the historical opportunities that are everywhere out here. It's a great place to live! I'm just not a huge fan of snow.....and the fact that my family is all across the country.

I live in the Arkansas Ozarks because my family is here. But I also love the hills through all four seasons. I like the quiet and the easy jokes. I feel guilty sometimes for living on the fringe, but I like my 16-acre yard and the impossibility of curb appeal. I love the walk to the mailbox, and the two state parks within a few miles.

I have lived in Alaska for the past year after my husband got a great job opportunity here.   We lived in Utah for 10 years and I grew to love it and the people.

However, I love Alaska!  The scenery is AMAZING! Just driving to the grocery store takes my breath away.

I love that 25 degrees is the perfect temperature all winter now.

I love that there is sunshine til midnight in the summer.

There are moose in my backyard.

The people are fantastic.  Hardworking, down to earth, and friendly.

I love the fall here.  Gold and greens wash the hillside.

I love that being away from any family has made us closer together as husband wife and as children.

ps-Leslie, my dad and grandmother live in the Arkansas Ozarks.  We would drive every year from UT to AR and I love that part of the country too.  I miss a good road trip.
