Yes, my daughter is 8 an she does have a cell phone. But we have reasons. She has Juvenile Diabetes. We have programmed her phone to have her parents, siblings, friends of the family and even her doctors number. I don't let her out of my sight very often but if she goes somewhere with friends and starts feeling weak she has all of our numbers so she can call us.

Sorry about that Lee, I pray the diabetes get off her.

It is necessary in cases like this. Thank God for technology!

No, the only exception would be if he/she were walking to and from school, or other related things. I might have an extra around to use for special reasons such as the 8 year old with diabetes above but to "own" one for regular use; no.

I agree Judith, this is a matter that requires serious thoughts so we do not expose our children to harm.

I normally would not let my 10 year old get a cell phone but my 8 year old daughter is type 1 diabetic and she has friends and goes places without me. So I gave her one of my old phones so whenever shes not with me I can text her or call her ot make sure she is ok.

Sometimes necessities can cause some exceptions.

I agree with you - when they're driving and on their own, they can have one. But even then, a cell phone is a privilege and if I think somethings up then I have full rights to see what's going on on the phone - after all, I will be the one paying for it :)
