Why do you blog?

Started by Dumb Mom , author of Parenting by Dummies 3/12/2012 3:49:33 PM

I know I do it for the community.  But, I'm curious to know why other people get into blogging?!  What's your motivation?!

I started my blog because I felt that my parenting philosophy was underrepresented on the internet. Now I have a wonderful community of readers with whom I share my thoughts and who share right back. I love the give and take.

I started my first blog (a family one) when I was on bedrest for four months with my twins. It was a great outlet and kept everyone connected with our struggles. After our move across the country, I started MoneywiseMoms to share what I'd learned about grocery savings and couponing. Now, I go back and forth on why I blog--mostly it's to help others, but I also like that I've created a "job" working from home for myself that works around my family and I'm earning income. I didn't know what I'd do with myself once all three were in school, and now I see that I can work from home successfully.

I blog because I enjoy writing and networking. Im not looking to get rich or earn money for what I write. My blog started as a way to share pictures with family, and it grew to become my little opus. I share my thoughts, ideas, and family with those that want to know what is going on in our family of 4. My blog has become my own special "island," and I go there to relax!

i blog for a few reasons, i guess. the connections made, the self-therapy found in "hearing" what i think, and also for the discipline it requires of me. it creates so many opportunities to grow personally and to receive positive feedback from women across the globe. thank goodness people are nice. i never got into it for the money. i think that would be quite a stressful way to blog. yes?

That's a really good question!  I initially started my blog because I wanted to feed my book habit.  I love reading and I found that you can post book reviews in exchange for books.  And for a book worm like me, that was the promised land!    But my blog has since morphed into a "mommy blog" as I started sharing family activities and photos.   I enjoy following more mom oriented blogs now that I have a baby in the house again and it seemed natural to go that route.

I started my blog to share my experiences and connect with other moms of boys. I also wanted to write about issues affecting boys.

I started my blog to document the journey of becoming a mom and share my experience mainly with my family.  I then realized that not very many people in my family read my blog so changed it up a lot.  Now I blog for myself and the connections I make with other people.  I have made some great "real world" friendships through blogging and look forward to meeting more people that share common interests.  I recently started blogging more about my profession too.  After my maternity leave ended with my second son I felt my passion for my career fizzle away.  I still struggle with finding that fire I had when I first graduated and started my career. My hope is to help other parents that may be going through problems with their children in the area of speech, language, swallowing or voice. through my blog.   If I can reach out to just a handful of families who have questions and don't really know where to turn for answers, then I will feel good about doing that.  Hopefully in turn I can find myself and the spark I have for my career.
