In the miltary we have been doing this for decades, it doesn't matter if its leftovers that need reheating or pogie bait (term for food used to bribe or trade for other items).  As long as you wrap it well and use a heat resistant material (foil is awesome) you will get a warm delicious meal for when your boots hit the ground!

Ha!  Me too, I just can't wrap my mind around the fact that I would be cooking with chemicals (car grease, road gunk, oil, etc) that close to my food.

Well I can remember cooking an egg on the sidewalk in Florida when I was a kid- so I guess you can cook on an engine! Not sure if I would do it- but Laurie's right- if I was hungry enough I probably would!
