Generally, you are absolutely right in your defenition about fiction and non-fiction and yes, we need them both.
I would go even further to say that right now we have a strong trend where non-fiction is outselling fiction titles. Why?

The overall effect of such developing and evolving trend reflecting new conclusions by market watchers: " More fiction publications are released every year that create a blend between the real and imaginary.
